Hi lads, just need some opinions
Looking at new reels , now originally I wanted to opt for the new sonik reels, was looking at the Sonik Vader X PRO FRS 10000 Reel Baitrunners , three for about £150 quid ish , so went to the local, tackle shop to source some and he said there rubbish and the Okuma INC 6000 FD reels are much better , around the same price .
Now , was he just talking rubbish as he doesn't stock sonik reels or is he right ???
I was thinking he just wanted an easy sale?
Any help very much appreciated

Sonik and Okuma are *****, get yourself some second hand Shimmys or Daiwa, PS Fox is ***** too

Nothing wrong with okuma reels. Probably the best budget to mid range reels on the market.
As said though, avoid sonik or fox reels.
For £150 a reel you also wouldn't go wrong with Penn Affinity 7000's. If you search the forum there's loads of feedback on these and none of it is bad. I use them myself.

Don't know what the Sonik's are like, a few crap reviews of them on here. But the Okuma Inc 6000's are spot on, I use them on my 10' setup. They aren't big pits though, they're classed as mini big pits.
If you want to consider big pits close to your budget, the Mitchell's are decent, the Avocast 7000 (quick drag) or FS7000 (free spool).

Used and abused my okuma 6000's and they've been solid. Got them on my 10ft Dwarfs. Would recommend to anyone.

The okumas are raved about on here, have 3 myself. They've been abused for close to 2 years now and they haven't had any problems, have you ever tried them or read reviews before spouting off?

Have to give a thumbs up to Penn's however. Depends on your setup. If you want big pits you can't go far wrong with Penn affinitys for 12fts for value for money. Mine are probably 10 years old now and never had them serviced and they're still as solid as the day I bought them

Okuma's aren't sh*t, I'm guessing you are judging them based on their price tag? I have a set of the 6000 inceptions, plus sets of SS2600's, Emblem 45's, Baitrunner 10000RB's and the old 4500 GT's.
The Okumas are better than any of them in my opinion, side by side with the SS2600's the only advantage the Daiwas have is looks. They're like slow wobbly relics compared to the Okumas and I feel a mug for paying £150 each (inc speed caps) when I got 4 Okumas for £180.
In fact, if someone wants a pair of SS2600's with WD speed caps and carbon washers, fully boxed and used half a dozen times I'll happily sell them for £220.

The Diawa Linear X has a larger spool than Shamarno's mid long cast and a nicer reel imo worth thinking about albeit second hand

Bought an okuma 6000 Inc today to try on my esp quickdraw 10ft, good value as they are cheap, seem well built, drag is good, spool ok and two line clips, fairly heavy for its size but to be expected for budget price but the weight isn't centralised and left side biased so if not held in place by the butt rest the rod twists.

Another vote for the okuma 6000 inc reels, got them on my 10ft rods and never miss a beat, smooth to use and great line lay and drag on them, give them ago if using shirt rods, wont be disappointed

Brilliant response as ever lad's, so cheers for that, next question so do I go for the 6 or 8000..as am fishing tamar my local lake in Bude conrnwall, so needs to be able to whack it a fair distance

As I said previously the okuma in 6000 is poorly balanced weight wise, not to big a deal as I only have the one on a stalking rod. If I wanted a pair or three for a static settup I would go emcast 25a which are a superior reel being smoother, better balanced and nearly as good as castizm 25's all for £82 each.

Mate of mine bought the Vader reels, he said they are so bad they wouldn't be collected by the binmen.
I think at that price point I'd probably be looking at a set of Penn's.

If you went in Waterfront by the canal.theyd know what they are on about ..one worked as a rep for a massive carp tackle company ,the other significant on Tamars ,both worked for a huge local firm together at one point,incorporating a big tackleshop ,one of them went to Sparsholt ,lots of experience..
They know their stuff and wouldn't do you over,
If you got yr advice from lanson,they too would give good advice for sure...Okumas are good reels...nothing wrong with them at all..
I use them myself ,in fact the Sheffield centrepin,is far superior in use to a Youngs purist 2048 ltd edition that belonged to my father..
Get the 6000 size,you do not need to cast to the horizon on Upper or lower ,believe me ..

I've got the okuma sheffield and a youngs Bob James, the Sheffield is a fantastic reel for the price but has gone up considerably since I got mine and I prefer the youngs on my light acolyte settup.
The fixed spool reel in this thread inception 6000 is poorly balanced as I said the reel is left dide heavy and twists the rod out of line if not gripped in line by the butt rest, apart from that it's OK but the emcast 25a is better for a bit more money, it's smoother and a little more refined, also comes with a spare spool and I actually sold my castizm 25's as I preferred the emcast.

Thanks again yes it was the canal tackle shop nice guy, did say he worked for some big company and pushed me towards the Okumas, will definitely go for them then.much appreciated, as ever top top advice

Just bought 3 Okuma 6000 inc, used them for the first time and all positive, great line lay and very smooth, havn't had chance to test the clutches yet.

Those 25a sound nice reels for the money I have to say....I like the look of them for sure..
Think.i paid £120 for my Sheffield when it first came out ,lovely reel ,came from the shop on the canal as well..
