Hi all.

Thinking of using peanuts next year.

Hoping someone can give me the lowdown about what to buy, what not to buy (I believe they used to need to be human grade but not any more?) and how to prepare to make sure they're safe

Thanks

Phil

Your local pet shop or Animal feed supplier and I believe even wilkes sell them. No differences in grades I believe anymore. Soak for 24hrs and then boil for about 30 minutes or until you can squash them between your fingers works well.

Good bait but dont over use them as the fish like em too much and they dont contain correct balance of nutrients for them. Too many can cause a massive increase in vitamin imbalance

The only condition would be that's the only food source they have.
If not all anglers are on peanuts, it's no issue.

dont know if its just me, but always find with tigers/peanuts and pinch goes a mile.
i might use 250g over 2/3 nights. same with tigers.

always soak them in cheap cola for 24-48 hours, then boil and leave in a bucket for a few days. bag up and vac pack in to 250g or 500g grab bags, freeze an defrost as needed.

Same here mate - I always fish peanuts in with tigers, with a tiger as hook bait. Used properly that will rinse waters, just a shame so many waters don't let you use them, but I get why. Carp love peanuts. I've had some amazing catches using them.

Great bait. Soak for a couple of days boil for 20 mins. Ready to use, but can successfully be frozen in the juice.

i do it as the cola has caramel flavoring and colorings, also why soak in water when you can soak in something that has flavor.

If you can find them online an old meat mincer with its finest attachment turns peanuts into a brilliant carpet feed, releases a lot of the oils for warmer month fishing also

The particle plate for the RM device is good too. Chopping them up fine before soaking them in boiling water for a day or two gives you a lovely milky and oily liquid to cloud up your swim.

I have been using Coke (non-diet) for many years, ever since I saw the first mention of its use on another forum (now extinct) outlining is use with tiger nuts.****. I first used it with peanuts about ten years ago, and wrote that Haith's Blog about Coke'd peanuts in late 2015. It was published online in 2016 as Stoned Nuts Rule, OK?.

(**** I made this point in the Stoned Nuts Blog linked to below)

(Was it our own TCarper who outlined the use of Coke?)

Thanks Ken

Heard of its use in Tigers but not peanuts.

Still not fully understanding what the Coke does though-is it acting as a pimped soaking agent or does it make the peanut react to create a residue (am i missing something)?

It is thought by some that caffeine and/or taurine are attractive to carp. Don't know about that but I know they have a sweet tooth.

Ken, try something called high fructose corn syrup if you can find it. It's fantastic.

Glucose and fructose are brilliant additives in boilies as sugars that carp can readily detect. I've not used them in particles as always found syrups to be better.

Available as “Karl” brand light corn syrup or isoglucole syrup in Europe.

Not banned like a lot think we just don't use it over beet products like the Americans

Not the Corn Syrup that Mark put people onto, that's £30.99 for 5kg.

The Karo (not Karl?) syrup you mention yes, £5-8'ish. You're only getting 500ml for that though.

Karo-Light-Corn-Syrup-473ml - This one?

It's no doubt 5L rather than 5K, just states 5K on Amazon.
It's been advised that Fructose is added to it, so there's your fructose element.

If its 100% glucose, it wont have fructose in it?

Have a search, simply add fructose powder to the stuff cam mentions below. Freely available on amazon

It's very different simply adding a powdered sugar to actually having it added prior to being inverted. With corn itself having negligible fructose it's always added. It would be a good product to sell. Just saying.

But Karo have “fructose free” on their bottles (I'm looking at one) - its one of their “healthy” selling points lol.

Afaik you can't get Fructose from corn.....

This is how they make it, "As in the production of conventional corn syrup, the starch is broken down into glucose by enzymes. To make HFCS, the corn syrup is further processed by D-xylose isomerase to convert some of its glucose into fructose."

I meant “naturally” - it needs even more processing to get there. I'd rather use a “natural” fructose than a synthesised one.

I gathered, felt like a dig from Ken, many people can reach the same findings, been adding for years.

Talking about Mainline? Confused. IIRC Mark was talking about catching over the ABS Choc Orange bait not so long ago.

Poor comparison if we're talking breadcrumb/fillers. But they all catch fish........
