What's peoples honest opinions on the deeper? Are they worth it or are they a waste of money?

They are very good as long as you understand the way sonars work and you are prepared to learn how to read it. Many seem to think it is a TV and then slag it off through ignorance.
It's a tool which you need to learn how to use. Whether it's is useful or not is down to you to decide.

Good tool IMO . . .massive improvement on the smartcast of old.
Very quick to map new swims and get an idea of whats out there
Versatile in that you can lob it out / attach it to a baitboat
Excellent at finding detailed features / holes in weed.
Always use in conjunction with a marker float but with practice (and with the chirp especially) you can learn to understand the surface bottom profile easily . . .

I had the pro+ and then the chirp. Chirp is definitely worth the extra money.

I have a bait boat and was intending to attach it to that so I can map swims. Was thinking either the new pro plus 2 or maybe the chirp I wasn't sure which so thought I would ask opinions on here.

Pro plus 2 specs very close to the chirp + 3 beam and fast charge though does not come with a 5 year warranty which I guess the longer is more suitable if your a salt water angler.
Don't expect to get 100metres out of the box and you'll find out that when your turn your boat it will sometimes loose connection. You can get WiFi extenders / fit into your boat (so you don't have to tow) to get more range.
Take a power bank with you as WiFi eats batteries be it your phone / tablet or the deeper itself, if doing longer sessions.

We can offer you a full technical valuation and repair of the device for 50 EUR. This price includes the technical diagnostic, all electronic repairs, battery change and shipping both ways.
You will be charged for the repair service only after we complete the process and ensure that that the Deeper is repaired to 100% functionality. If the device cannot be repaired to 100% functionality because of irreparable damage (physical damage, water damage), paid product exchange will be offered instead.
If you would like to proceed, please provide me with your full shipping address including phone number and email address. I will create a UPS shipping label so that you could send the unit to the repair facility. We will charge you only when we receive and successfully repair the unit.

If you have not used one before prepare to be amazed at the instant information they provide. Absolute game changer if your a zig user and brilliant at giving you confidence and the lnowledge of what is out there. Once you use it you'll wonder why you never tried it before.
I have the chirp and consider it to be one of if not the best piece of kit I own.

They are equally easy to use. I traded up to the chirp because I wanted to fish a shallow lake and I'm well pleased with it, but the pro plus was good enough otherwise.

What I didn't think of was the fact t think of others so don't use it as much as I thought I would, if that makes sense. Last week I waited for a fella on the opposite bank to pack up and go before I used it. I am sure that it will come in handy on new venues and unknown areas though.

the depth limitations with the pro + are annoying in shallow water. Anything below 3ft and it simply says "too shallow"! If your water is predominantly shallow don't get the pro +....

Waste of money imo, at least if you're going to use it on shore for mapping. Limited range, poor battery, lots of signal loss (gps-fix, wifi), annoying depth limitations. Mapping is rubbish because of all this. Works pretty decent from a boat, but when I compare depths/maps with my other sonars, its not half as accurate.

Completely disagree with this.
I do have a range extender but cannot cast it far enough to be out of range. Follow the guidance.... go to airplane mode and then open wifi for best range. I got the range extender for if i want to use it with the boat mapping.
Battery is great, I've never ran it out in multiple sessions, never had sign loss on gps once it connects which is pretty quick, no depth limitations on the chirp, mapping is excellent.

Personally I think it's an amazing bit of kit used properly. Part of the problem is understanding what your seeing on the screen and correctly interpreting that information.
I rigged up my spare Nash Bushwhacker spoon with mounts for the Chirp and Fishspy so you can actually see what the deeper Chirp information means when your moving over the lakebed, granted this only works in relatively shallow clear water say 6-8ft but it's certainly a big edge when your trying to find holes in weed and workout exactly what your fishing over and where to put a rig.
Not something I use all the time, but it's a nice tool to have in your armoury when needed. Glad I bought mine.

Have followed the guidance and it does the same on tablet and phone. This was my second one and my mate has the same issues. Heard others swear by them, so that's why I said in my opinion. Perhaps I was just unlucky. But never again for me.

Yes get the pro + 2
I originally was going to get the chirp then saw they had released this version. From looking at the differences on the deeper website felt the cost delta didn't justify getting the chirp.

From what I could see it's just extra battery life which shouldn't really matter as most of us lug enough battery packs around to jump start a car. I too can't see what the extra cost beyond the standard chirp is really for.

Most users have issues because they don't position their phone or tablet high enough to create a clear line of sight . . .needs to be up on a storm pole if you're casting out with a rod and line. I've had signal with my Chirp at over 80yds no problems and without a range extender - with a bait boat (and range extender) it stays connected beyond where I can reasonably see the boat . . .

Tip . Pickup a camera tripod from a charity shop and attached a phone holder to it
Sorted.
Putting your phone to aeroplane mode and then switching on wifi only also helps.

You can pick up decent tripods on 7dayshop cheap enough 👍 I got one years ago and it's still going strong

Are you all just using a standard spod rod and heavy leader when casting deeper to prevent crack offs?
Is the issue with shallow water not showing a fault that is likely to be resolved? I fish a couple of really shallow lakes where identifying very slight changes in depth would be useful

Same as Toronto_Carp, 30lb braid straight through. The only difference for me is i use a wire trace too. The lake i fish has some pike in it and i've seen Deepers chased and bitten off, so i wont take the chance.
You can buy ready made traces for lure fishing with a strong quick change clip on it, works a treat.
