Yet again my drennan boilie pult elastic has given way and a replacement set is going to cost me nearly £8 due to postage so I'm wanting a good boilie catapult medium range that the spares are easily available for.

Any suggestions please

Got the Korda one recently, it's half decent and with it being Korda I'd hope spares are easy to get.

Not sure about spares availability, but the ESP ones are good. Have 3 of them (for some reason, can't remember why), and all 3 are still going strong. Think I've had the first one > 10 years.

Get on the bay and buy a few metres of surgical elastic.

Should keep you going a few years on the cheap.

Also got korda/JAG pult & went on the bay for surgical elastic, makes them great pults with the large korda boilie pouch.

Need a new 'pult for Boilies and was considering the ESP Boilie 'pult.
Is their particle version better for Boilies? Seems strange.

What sort of range are people getting. My catapults are a bit like Triggers broom as over the years I've had to change the the elastic and also I think the pouch at some time. Using 16mm and struggling to get over 14 wraps so having to go over to a throwing stick.

I was struggling to get to 11 wraps (krill active) with the Jag one pult. Tried different elastics. Only thing I did achieve was sore knuckles

Opinions I suppose.
I've not had any trouble with the standard elastic hitting 15 wraps and not one knuckle wrap yet. One of the first pult's that hasn't happened with? Happy with mine.

Forgive me for chiming in about the one-pult as I'm ever so biased. I'll say my piece and leave it alone to everyone's opinion, but there is a “knack to it” of sorts, which is very good practice for any catapult.

That is simply to keep the frame nice and rigid in your hand when you release the pouch. You see many people when firing the catapult almost push with the frame when releasing bait, I know I've done it in a bid to get a few extra yards. This only hinders distance but also changes the angle the latex and pouch recoil back toward you, it also affects how the bait leaves the pouch. Keep as rigid a frame hand as possible with the frame flat to the lake and it'll perform superb. Also with the semi rigid pouches which is excellent for filling and bait release you need to fire the catty at least approx 40 degrees, this stops bait falling out and aids distance.

When you buy other catapults they all come with predetermined elastic strengths and pouches, with the one-pult you can choose any combination, the one to avoid is using the super heavy elastic with the small pouch as this is totally unbalanced between strength of latex and weight of payload. You need a nice balance between the two.

Cheers Jim

I think I've been guilty of not keeping the frame steady on release.
what do you mean by 'frame flat to the lake '

Wasn't the greatest description I used there. When you make aim, just try stop the frame from moving on the release. No matter what pult you use this facilitates accuracy and if it's a decent pult stops knuckle wraps.

i use an esp pult which is decent enough apart from the fact i keep tearing the eyelet out of the pouch, specially in summer when i'm feeding floaters heavily. I've just taken delivery of a jag one pult, i bought it because the elastic went round the pouch and that would solve a problem for me but i'm not sure i've done the right thing now i've read this thread

You'll be fine. There's nothing wrong with it. The pros far outweigh the negatives.

The jag pult when used correctly is excellent. Like Jim says, certainly one of the bad reviews that got a lot of traction on Facebook was from a guy complaining he couldn't get any accuracy and was wrapping his knuckles. When he posted up a picture of what he was using, he'd fitted the heaviest grade elastic, that requires the maximum pull to fully compress it and he'd combined that with the smallest pouch. So was it really any wonder the thing had no control. This was pointed out to him but fell on deaf ears, obviously. Then as per usual other people chip in, claiming “it's a piece of s@@t” then you read comments further down and you realise they don't even own one. Same old same old. Seems some people expect it to be a miracle pult that suddenly puts out baits at throwing stick distances, completely unreasonable expectations.

Let's put this into a bit of perspective. I can tell you from personal experience that this catapult went through many many different versions of frames, elastic, attachments, pouches, handles etc etc and then even from my limited knowledge it was tested for at least two years that I know of. Does anyone think they'd actually release an unusable product after all that time and research?

Like anything new that you own in fishing, it takes practice to get it right and find the right balance for you and your situation and to hone your techniques. If they'd released this catapult and it was £9.99 you wouldn't have found a single negative comment, but because it's more expensive some people feel the need to start off from a negative viewpoint and work there way down from there. You get Jag haters, Korda haters, mainline haters etc etc. But thousands of these have been sold and I can tell you that thousands of them haven't been returned for a refund.

Just make your own mind up.

i think i need to practice with it mate, i used it briefly to put a few baits in before i left the lake yesterday, accuracy was awful and i wrapped my knuckles a few times
i ended up trying to lock my arm, aim high, keep the pouch central and not follow through or roll my wrist which is something i have a habit of doing with my old esp pult, it's hard to undo many years of doing this though. i have the black elastic and a medium pouch which is the standard combination i believe?. i'll stick with it for now, practice makes perfect and all that but my first impression of it is the lad you mention on fb might have a point
if i can get the knack of it i'll be ok otherwise it'll be back to my old faithful.

What size would you suggest? I've looked at the esp replacement but it doesn't state what size. I was just seeing if I could save a few quid in all honesty with a cheaper alternative
