I recall the sainsburys basics range that isn't much kop either.
Why would anyone want to buy cheap crap that you'll on only end up buying twice, three times before you realise that you've wasted your money.

I think that is so you don't need a kicker thus saving money.
Fox have a budget range of hooks too.

Was that a generic question or one regarding fishing stuff lol
If generic it's like someone who buys an expensive car which for most just does exactly the same as a cheap one
For fishing landing nets rods etc there are so many examples.
I guess it all comes down to perception each to their own.
Though if someone brings out a cheap range you really have to ask are you getting value for money and yes time will tell, though there's been many examples of companies that have traded on price and gone under.
With COVID we will all have to pay more and live with less in our pocket.

On the contrary, the hook for instance is the most important part, why skimp?
I have tried bank tackle and mosquito angling hooks because they were cheap and to be honest, they were cr*p so i went back to paying more for gardner and esp
Id rather have cheap rods, alarms and reels etc. but spend more on hook, line and bait

Not being funny, but until you try, why slag off, too much of this already going on!
I myself pick what I think is quality tackle, I don't scrimp and save on anything, unless I think that's it's good enough for my use, but what's to say that this “brand” from Korda isn't quality enough for the majority?
Personally getting fed up with the haters, yes there businesses, but let's put another perspective on it, how many search for cheaper insurance deals, foods, is that not the same, or am I missing something?

Happy to see the affordable range from Korda and like anybody else I like using quality gear. My point really was the generic products that can be bought much cheaper than the carpy branded stuff. Water proofs, clothing, camping gear, footwear etc.

I like all the people in this post saying "its worth spending the extra money on hooks" just assuming that anything that costs more money is better.
Buy all my end tackle, swivel's etc off Ebay nowadays to avoid the carp tax, no problems whatsoever with it 
Hooks are not something i have comprised as yet but i guess like most things, the mark up will be extortionate

I tried the Bank tackle stuff but went back to ESP, Korda etc.
The swivels look the same, but when you test the rotation against the ESP high performance they catch and grind. Also had them with blobs of the coating blocking them up.
For the sake of a few quid it's not worth it for me.

I wo der how many factories there are that make hooks. I know that NGT have their own factory and make hooks for Fox, and id expect they make others too.
I wonder who makes J precision hooks, people rave about them, thr same people who dismiss some of the other cheaper brands that look exeptionally similar.
A proper blind test on hooks, id be very suprised if people woipd be able to pick out the cheaper brands.

I could be wrong but I don't believe NGT make anything. I understand they are an importer i.e they rebrand (tat) and bring/sell to the European market.

I believe that its the complete opposite, so ive been told on good authority. They are one of the very few manufacturers that have factories and produce their own items, and they produce many for others too.

If that is true I find it odd that they produce such absolute sh*t under their own banner and manufacture presumably half decent stuff for other brands.

I agree. But ive been told it by someone in the tackle industry, i see no reason he would lie.
Theres probably a lot of money to be made just churning out cheap tat. No one is going to spend full price for a premium product with NGT written on it, so why even bother attempt to compete in that market.

No mate you aren't wrong. Met the guy at an evening of carp with Terry Hearn a few years back and he told me they import huge quantities of stuff to get the price so low direct from China. They manufacture nothing

I stand corrected.
That's a good price. Hooks have become overly expensive over the years. They look a bit like one of the Fly patterns anglers were using a few years back. Like all buisness they've seen a demand and gone for it. I'll definately be having a look. 
Lot of the even cheaper tat also comes in from India, was a guy I met once his full name escapes me at one show on the next trade stand to the one I was helping out on he had a booking company for lakes abroad but also dabbled in cheap fishing kit, he had a brand name he used again cannot remember that but he was absolutely making a killing at Zwolle on baiting spoons with either a long or short handle he sold something like 600 over that weekend all the stock of them he took over, he was banging them out for something like 6 euro told me they cost him pence from India he goes to some tackle expo every year over there, his words were cheap as chips cheaper than China.
I bought a pack of the wide gape size 6 today for a runs water I'm taking my lad on tomorrow,love the aggressive in turned eye, sharp out the packet and for £2.40 who cares if they only last 1 fish,not fussed about no Teflon coating. I think they look decent hooks. would I fish a low stocked pit for a pb with them,probably not but they look decent for a runs water.

Personally I wouldn't have anything given with NGT on..
I bought a 9ft 4 piece carp rod a few years ago for fishing on
The pier in lanzarote, first cast snapped on the retrieve. Managed to bodge
it back together. Year after bought another as I thought it may have been a
defect but same happened again.. I've never snapped a rod in my life. I even used
to have a £10 telescopic rod for the pier that never snapped. I now have a rovex
8ft 4 piece bass rod and it's a dream.
Having said that, some parts of the Basix range I'm sure will be in my game as
they will have good build quality at a lesser cost.
Agree though 1 thing I won't be changing is my hooks..
