Getting a bit frustrated with these.
Wanted to keep it simple for surface fishing, so hooked a bait band onto the hook and inserted a mixer biscuit which sat nice and tight to the shank of the hook.
Hooks were a size 12 Korda Mixa. Dropped it in a bowl of water to test it and it sunk. Tried several other biscuits with the same results.
Don't want to go any smaller on hooksize and as the biscuit will take on water and get even heavier I'm a bit stumped on where to go from here.
Are there any better floating biscuits/pellets I should be using maybe?
New to this surface fishing lark

I use floating pellets rather than mixers as they are more bouyant . Mixers ain't what they used to be

Use dried cat biscuits ..much smaller so keep them more occupied / competing with each other for a longer period without filling them up ...then just superglue a biscuits to the hook or use your own alternative

Supermarket brand mixers are better with a cut down pop up on a hair. Bait banding is a pain I've found

Harrington's in the brown paper bag float, I use them with some smaller biscuits, coat them in hot fish oil and then in the sticky krill powder 👍🏽

Think it must be 10 years ago Chum Mixers stopped being so buoyant, the joke was Chris Ball left the company😖😉
Tescos mixers became the best floating mixers, whether they were on the original Chum recipe?
I started using Bakers Complete, the mix of sizes and colours, and the big meaty chunk ones on the hook.
Hooks with them are Drennan Super Specialists in 10 and 12, and Solar 101's in size 10.
I don't bother with a bait band, instead using a short hair and 'forcing' a bait stop through the loop after pushing the chunk as tight as I can to the hook with a knotless knot hair.

I was struggling to get the mixer tight to the hook shank with a hair but maybe those meaty chunks will make it possible if they are a bit spongey.
Do they swell up in the water or stay the same size?
Are these the one's you're referring too:

They used to love Munchies too😎

I prefer Tesco Dry Dog Food and Mixer
plenty of typical fishing mixers in there and the different shapes keep the fish guessing.
I also dislike plain bait bands, much prefer the tabbed type like the John Roberts Baits Bands, brown ones far right

Anyone remember Purina Dairy Dinner cat biscuits? Best floater I ever used.

Same here, I use trout pellets these days. I like to use different sizes and always douse them with some fish oil, which keeps them bunched up a bit longer when there's wind on the water. The carp also seem to follow the slick to find them... anyone use Marshmallows? I use them on a river I fish - they cast really well when freelined. The carp love 'em.

I remember the munchies and the Purina brand, never used the latter though
I also remember a bloke catching the biggest mirror in the lake on a massive red Bakers Complete, ridiculous
Exciting times, two GoCats hair rigged on a size 10, sat up a tree dropping GoCat on them whilst my mate was on the bank with the rod, get ready, get ready, strike!
Happy days

Were they the ones with the 'liquid' inner...the old grey matters scratching for that one

Those Tesco biscuits I linked have some big red square ones in, it's fun watching the smaller Carp chase the bloody thing all over

Strange things at times carp, peach of a fish at the time around the 26lb mark. I would put money on it that they wouldn't take such a great big, dirty, obvious lump off the top, but it did

Those big chunk of Bakers biscuits are some of my favourite hookbaits for carp and chub. It is as if the extra large size triggers the greed factor in both species.

I've ordered some of these brown bands off the back of your recommendation, never strangely come across them before! Thanks Vossy 👍

My son in law has been using an Asda home brand mixer. Which are a bit larger and more irregular shaped than the Tesco ones. They float fine and fish defiantly weren't put off.

Can't be arsed using a hair for floater hookbaits so usually use the Sonubaits oily floaters or the more expensive (but actually quite good) Nash Hookable Floaters . . .using a size 8/10 Korda Mixa I just nick the hookbait straight on and push it round to the eye . . .conceals most of the hook and by the time you've left it out in the lake for a bit pulls through on the take easy . . .
Saying that I caught a couple this evening on trimmed down 8mm Sticky Baits Mulbz Pastel pop ups . . .just need to be a bit more careful but can also be side hooked on direct . . .brilliant during the fading light as I can actually see the hookbait!
