Im looking for a 20kg bulk bag of hemp seeds. Does anyone know where I can get some at a reasonable price? The same goes for hemp oil too.
Thanks in advance

It is very hard to find good hemp but I may have just seen a nice sample which could be available in about 2 weeks. For over year I have only seen rubbish hemp from about 6/7 of the main suppliers

Crap hemp doesn't split when you boil it. And it sometimes floats.

So hemp normally comes from China or in recent years, France. For the last two years I have seen small, dusty hemp that will not split
One way I normally tell how good hemp is, is too take a sample of half a kilo or so and pour a kettle of boiling water over
Leave it overnight and see if any begins to split. Boil it the next day for 30 mins and see what it is like.
The hemp i sampled this week is definitely an improvement. It's just the cost 😢

Do you mix your hemp in with the goat mix?
Do you mix your hemp in with the goat mix?
I bought a sack of buckwheat instead of hemp last year and had some excellent results over it. Almost identical but cooks in half the time. Might be worth having a look.

Interesting. Think I might already have buckwheat in a goat mix or bird feed

Monster particles hemp is decent value if you get it in a deal. It's French hemp so smaller than your usual Chinese hemp. Prepared it's split well and oily as anything too. Imo it looks very similar to the small snail and Crustacea found on the lake bed (you know then boilie shots in the margins with the little black snails on) which can't be a bad thing either.

Do you guys find hemp seeds are best presented as they are or do you mix the hemp with any other particles?

Mix it with other stuff, as carp can become very preoccupied with it and will ignore everything else(including your hookbait)

I normally get mine from Copdock Mill, Gladwells just outside Ipswich. It is 5minutes drive for me, so not a problem.
I found the past couple of years hemp quality has been all over the place, some really bad batches, and the price has increased.
For the cost I started buying Giant Hemp at £38 a sack compared to £37 for 'normal'.
The past few years because of the quality issue I have been mixing it with Vitalin and pigeon conditioner or chicken corn.

I would mix them with other particles of different sizes and shapes because as previously mentioned carp can get preoccupied with the bait your throwing in if its all the same size. Also carp get used to how much effort they need to suck in a food particle or boilie, and then if the inhale your hookbait which is different to the rest then they may reject it. Its the same with floater fishing on the surface. So try and make a mix of different sizes and maybe even include some boilies in your mix, maybe chopped, crushed and turned into dust. This will mean that the carp keep on encountering different food items and will not know what is dangerous.

I have seen carp feeding over hemp and tares, and picking out the hemp, ignoring and leaving the tares.
I would fish hemp either to create total preoccupation, just ripping the bottom to pieces, as a minority particle in the mix, or with just a few grains around (say a pint).

Agree, Maltbys have always sold me decent hemp seed. Once prepared, I mix with rock salt, hemp oil from tesco and a handful of porridge oats
