Nope. As things stand, from 29th of March you are NO LONGER LEGALLY required to stay at home. That could change if the R rate starts to rise again though.

There remains a fair degree of confusion around the rules this side of the border and what is law and what is guidance. Dickford is also trying to block English tourists so I dare say he has a strong view about us travelling then other way as well. Worth the risk though

After what has been described as “intense discussions with government officials” the Angling Trust is delighted to announce that we have confirmation that all forms of angling including night fishing, charter boat angling and match fishing will be able to resume from March 29th under new Covid guidance for the return of outdoor sports and recreation.
Angling Trust CEO Jamie Cook welcomed the news saying:
“Following our Fishing out of Lockdown submission to the Cabinet Office in February we have been pressing for the lifting of the restrictions placed upon angling through lockdown, in particular night fishing and match fishing, when the time is right.
“We made it clear to the Government that recreational fishing has provided a valuable lifeline for many thousands of people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds throughout this pandemic. It has been conducted safely and responsibly with strong Covid secure guidelines in place covering every aspect of our sport
“I'm pleased that the multiple benefits that angling delivers have again been acknowledged and that we can all look forward to a return to the angling opportunities we were able to enjoy last summer and autumn.”
In common with other outdoor sports, including golf, the Angling Trust is publishing initial guidelines to help clubs and fisheries prepare for a full return for angling at the end of the month. These guidelines will be revised once the regulations are published but they include written confirmation from both the Cabinet Office and Defra. Further information will be published in due course on the Sport England website.

I cannot wait I got 4 days booked onto festival on the 6th of April had it booked for 5 months and didn't think I could go untill now, well happy now 😃
Think I'll I wait until mid May , hopefully lakes might be a bit quieter .
All pegs will be rammed on evry Lake till next year haha same as after the 1st lockdown haha

I don't think my syndicate will be too busy. Pike fishing ends on the first day out of lockdown, and it apparently usually do a carp until the last week of March anyway.
I have around 2 weeks of fishing until I get called back to work, so might do some time on the syndicate. Gives me the chance to get proper spotting, learning and stalking.
I know at least one lake that won't be.😉

Everywhere will be rammed, so I wouldn't get too excited. Wish they'd kept the ban, as it has done waters a lot of good and the fishing has been excellent. Back to competing with noddy time bandits and waters being hammered to death by the halfwits who can only catch carp by boring them into submission. I'll be making the most of the next two weeks day only fishing.

Depends on your water doesn't it? We will be fine with 50 members on 150 acres. And that's if everyone turns up at the same time. Which they won't.

My lake is in another county so i got no change getting out. Going to be rammed as well so quite glad. I can wait a little longer until im able to cross county lines.

The statutory stay at home restriction will be lifted but the guidance will encourage you to minimise travel outside of your local area. This means avoiding making unnecessary journeys, combining trips and avoiding travel at peak times where possible. People should avoid travelling further than is reasonably necessary to take part in, or during, their activity.

I'm going 80plus miles on the 6th, angling trust responded to a comment underneath saying it is not law to stay local just advised to and said you can now travel further afield to fish. I've stuck to rules the whole time but I'm going now

Likewise Rich. My two (and now a third) syndicate are all between 70-90 miles away. I've stuck totally to the rules as well and will still do so. From the 29th is 'guidance', and the AT have given it the go ahead. That's good enough for me.

Ok, just re-read the AT statement. So fishing is now classed as an essential journey for recreation etc. but they still advise people to limit the distance they travel.

ive been fishing days on my syndicate for weeks, its around 15 miles away.
in my eyes a local shot is different to a local lake.

There was actually no known definition of local, either from the government, local police or local authority.
"Stay in your local area".
Postcode wise I have IP1, 2, 3, 4, 8 and 9 within 5 miles of my flat, 6 districts, 4 local councils.
It is 23.8 miles to my syndicate lake from home, or 10miles from where I was working, still in the same county, and I could visit without going out of my way. So I would do an agency shift, then go fishing.
Now being able to fish nights from 29th March makes life a lot easier.

I think the point is if you are travelling from, say, Bristol to Oxford, its not necessary as you'll be driving past loads of other waters to get there.......

This is the bottom line. From the 29th of March you are no longer legally required to stay at home. That means you can legally leave your home and not be fined for doing this.
The guidance is to remain local as much as possible. You can't be fined for not following the guidance.
Whether you drive 10 miles to a local lake or a 100 mile round trip to a day ticket/syndicate, whether it's a day session , overnight, or several days , it's 2 journeys.
I don't understand what the difficulty is here. You can follow the law. the guidance, or both.

Make your own decision and stay safe and don't put anyone at risk. Having worked solidly in the public domain for the whole time, fishing has kept my mental health in the right place that is for sure.

Had about 2 weeks left leave to use so I carried a week over for my session on the 6th of April, I get 7 weeks leave a year anyway so I'll be fine for trips I have booked already
