What can people recommend. I don't want to spend much money, as its literally something light and to be used only for day sessions.

I'm looking for exactly the same, I need something lightweight for day sessions and I don't want to spend loads. What I've looked at so far is:
TFG Oval Brolly from Go Outdoors for £85, weight 4.8Kg. These are good as my lad has one with an overwrap.
Advanta Protector MZ Shelter from AD for £80, weight 4.5Kg.
Advanta Discovery CX Low Rider Brolly from AD for £110, weight 5.5Kg.
Fox Easy Brolly for £120, may be out of stock, weight 4.9Kg.
Sonik AXS Brolly (£120) or Shelter (£180), these look good because you can add groundsheet & overwrap to make into bivvy.
Not sure what the Advanta kit is like as I don't know much about them, but I'd imagine the Fox one is good and the Sonik ones have good reviews.

What do people want in a day shelter ?
personally I THINK they simply need something to keep the cold wind off and to sit in a chair and stay dry ?
I do 48 hour sessions on the river I fish for up to 15 hours constantly recasting every 45 mins then reel in and go to bed so in effect I day fish
I just use a cheap 50inch Nylon Brolly it was peanuts
when I fish then when I kip I reel in and get a good undisturbed sleep in my bivvy

I was shopping for one before Xmas and decided all the titled day shelters were poor and didn't do the job as ideal as I wanted (issues such as cheap material, weird pack down sizes, difficult to setup etc). Ended up buying a brolly designed primarily for sea angling. Cost less than £50, good quality material, fits in my compact quiver and has sides as a bonus

So I was thinking what do I want.
Quick erection! Compact to carry, my day kit has been refined to allow me to be mobile, I don't want a clunking rubbish bag to make life more complicated. Relatively low profile and footprint. Ideally I want to be able to sit in it and keep dry (tie pva) - as day sessions are only allowed, I don't want to faff about setting my bivvy up. I like somewhere to keep my kit organised too.

I was in the same boat tried both the korum supalight a pentalight rubbish so I don't want a big shelter to faff around with so I bought a Leeda 45 inch brolly it pegs down at back and has tilt very light would go in any swim very fast to erect £29.99

Easy to use, put up, screw in storm pole or sticks, sorted.
It keeps the wind off, creates shade in the summer, and is also suitable for overnighters.
I use mine for carp fishing, pike, even for roach or bream fishing on the reservoir.

I have used my wifes Korum Graphite Brolly Shelter for day sessions and its light, quick to put up and stable in high (ish) winds
It's no Pioneer bivvy system but keeps the worst of the weather off when travelling light.

Not owned a bivvy for the last few years as been more than happy with a brolly but must admit that if I decide to get a bivvy as a backup the Sonik is high on my to check out list so would be keen to get your views once you have had a chance to try it out

I rate the jrc bloxx 2g compact shelter as can add a wrap to it to use it as a full bivvy, it's light enough goes up fast and pretty stable too

i've got a korum 50" brolly, it's very light, the lightest i could find, it keeps me dry when it rains and it's nice and easy to carry

I have an older korum oval, its quite small but perfect for day fishing and summer nights. You can get a sensible sized bedchair and all the gear (minimalist) for a couple of days under it.

for a day get brutal ?
for instance end tackle should easily fit in a small tupper ware box leave any spares in the car in the unlikely event you need them etc as we all take WAY too much gear for a days fishing

Its def light - more like 1.5kg which is nothing . . material is rizla thin but a decent shade of dark green. Centre pole angle bracket is the weakest point - its engineered badly and to be honest I'll be using with the pole in its fully rigid position only. Size at 45" is fine for days with enough room to sit on a small chair and stash day-kit / luggage undercover no probs . . .for under £20 is perfect for rivers / shorts days / emergency downpour use
