Not done much fishing for the last 10 years I'm after a new main line,currently have 20lb xline on my spools but I've seen there are so many new mono,braids,fluro's etc out now...what's the current trend ?

Daiwa Sensor for me, cheap and cheerful, I've used it for years without any problem. In 15lb for general carp fishing, 12lb for fishing at range and 20lb for catfish.
It's about a tenner for a bulk spool, I go for the dark one.

totally agree with this , one of the best lines I have used normally go for the 18lb version as not casting far and its like tow rope.

You'll get 101 different answers on this. Here's another for you - Korda Subline, I love it. Very low memory for a mono, casts well, good abrasion resistance and reasonably low stretch for a mono. I use it 15lb and it has been faultless. Was a Dawia Sensor man for many years, but the Korda line is simply better and yes, I have tried quite a few being named here, but none were as good. Not that it makes any difference, but I use the green and also have 12lb loaded with leaders for distance work. Best mono on the market IMO.

Korda touchdown for me in 12lb (actually breaks at 18lb) only the 12lb as the higher breaking strains are awful

Were you? I have a full spool in 15lb, it didn't even make it onto my reels , I tied some knots with it that pig tailed like crazy and I just couldn't bring myself to use it...

I know what your saying mate. However i found that using a four or five turn grinner knot seemed to work okay for me. What knots were you using?
I bought some ESP syncro xt before that and I thought that pig tailed far worse compared to the Gardner stuff.

another for the Synchro XT - I've recently respooled with the 15lb loaded (on my UK carp rods) and prefer the colour but the original behaves itself a little better . . .excellent in all strains (from 10-18lb) and have it spooled up on most of my specimen fishing reels . . .

Every knot i tried, inuding the trusty palomar knot i now use to attach my leadless leaders. 15lb I was using.

Mono ,really can't fault Gardner's gt hd in 15lb for all round general angling been brilliant the few years I've used it ,
Fluro I've only ever used 17lb xline ( for over 10yrs ) and never felt the need to change , does what's its supposed to with great reliability once again 👍
Plenty of good lines out there bud but these are the 2 I only use given the situation 👍
