All,

Received my book today, I find myself a little disappointed to be honest. It's an absolute photographic master piece, beautifully put together and presented to the highest standard however, I've flicked through the whole book, cover to cover and there just isn't enough words...

I'm going to have to hold myself back allot if I not I'll finish it in a night.

This isn't a winge, I'm just a little confused and I'm sitting somewhere between thinking it's amazing and it's terrible all at the same time.

I'll probably get destroyed by the purists for saying it, however this is just how I'm seeing it

I've also ordered it, although it will take some time to get to me in Sydney, so I can't comment on your observations directly.

Perhaps it's a case of quality of words, not quantity. And I suppose if "a picture paints a thousand words", then all might be Ok.

Looking forward to it's arrival none-the-less, along with Through the Mist & Rolling in the Deep ...

i thought this
i would suggest 1-3 are better from a reading point of view and i prefer the older ones matt finish.

perhaps if more people provide this type of feedback they might alternate

By the looks of it you've got to have a love of photography to appreciate this one fully.

I know Gaz Fareham used to be an Art and Photography teacher. So is probably a bit of a personal folly on his behalf.

I absolutely loved 1-3, probably some of the best reading I've ever had,

I suppose why I was extra disappointed is because the style of fishing the book mostly promotes (On the continent - Public waters) is one I am especially interested in and do myself.

I also hadn't heard it was basically a photo album, although in fairness I didn't read the description on the website either due to the love I had for the others.

So its just hard back Instagram without the hashtags .

I must be the only angler that doesn't get subsurface! I had book 1 and never read it and sold it .
Sounds like book 4 is even worse.

why would they alternate something they do totally independent, to their own standards, documenting things in the way they see carp fishing and everything that comes with it? Subsurface has always had a huge focus on quality imagery, so it's a natural progression to release something like this, rather than repeating themselves. Surely they have not stood still in their personal developments since the last release, waiting to do the exact same thing again 5 years on.

What would a complete unread set of 4 go for?

The guy is a trained fine artist and photographer and wanted to make a book with a heavy focus on photography. Fair play to him, and he'll sell loads. If you want words buy one full of words, there are a few about.

The only one with any value is the first one. I sold mine for £200. The other editions will be valued as “second hand” and be worth less than buying new from Subsurface.

Whether the first edition keeps its value when they release the reprint will be interesting to see.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes we decided to go down a different route for Number IV. Great support which is massively appreciated.

In case you dont know the whole Sub operation is self funded and done by myself and Gaz. No outside publishing houses or web designers. It was a bit of a struggle to pull everything togethor in time and we were blown away by the demand (hence having to shut the shop to catch up so everyone got there orders for Christmas). New products to come this year and we have started bouncing ideas around for the next project.

To confirm a couple of things - Sub 1 and IV are now sold out. No reprints are being done of either. Limited stock of 2 and 3 and again once gone they are gone.

The online blog will have some Sub 1 material over the coming months as we appreciate £100 for an ebay copy is not ideal.

Any thoughts of what you guys want to see in the future welcome.

no hastags but high-res and bigger format than looking on my phone or tablet

Its given me the photography bug again, now digging around looking for a good buy on a prime lens as its the one thing my camera kit is still missing

I'm the proud owner of all 4. Wasn't sure about IV when I read it was mainly photography esp as I'd seen some of the pictures online. It's a really good edition though and makes you want to get the rods out. Some of the bigger images really are amazing.

Future editions would be get back to the stories about carp!!! The interviews about pure photography or short question interviews never really did it for me. Big interviews or stories are the ones for me. I'd say UK content too, although getting unknown or fresh content from the UK is probably hard work these days.

Some of the German fish look unreal too.

Also, can you tell Gaz to hurry up with the Northern Chapters book too 😁😁😁

DHL lost my copy and you immediately sorted out another for delivery in time for Christmas.
