Welly must be up there for cost. Most of The Valley tickets are high up on a lot of people's lists. Savs is definitely one I'd love to fish. Even once before it gets completely ruined.

Clubs - generally take anyone. You pays ya money. You get a ticket. Normally large number of members and often multiple waters in the club book.
Syndicate - Invite only. limited numbers. Normally the ticket price is set to purely cover the running costs of the syndicate.
Angling Society - again invite only. Limited numbers but often have a legally structured committee, has to have an AGM and present accounts to its members. Usually maintains a bank account of funds.
Clubs - generally take anyone. You pays ya money. You get a ticket. Normally large number of members and often multiple waters in the club book.

There are very few genuine syndicates about. Plenty of limited membership waters around (usually referred to as syndicates). Some you have to be invited to join, some you can apply for membership.
I know there are clubs where you have to have an interview as well as clubs where you just pay your money and fish.
There are plenty of very, very sought after tickets that most will never even hear of.
Personally I'd love to get a Savay season ticket again above all others.

One of mine is a proper old school syndicate. Middle of no where. Only 30 members. Otter fenced. Hundred quid a year. Lovely.

It all depends what you're into. If you like to stack the odds heavily in your favour, you'll rattle off to places like Grenville where it's like shooting fish in a barrel, or if you're into catching a whopper where the odds are stacked heavily against you, you could rattle around somewhere like ferry lagoon and have to be reminded what a carp looks like as you're not likely to see one on the bank anytime soon. One loads a money, the other reasonable money. Both a syndicate of sorts and both sort after.to varying degrees.
Club water? For me, a felling like I've had a psychotic episode. Can be an amusing ride along the way with all the various characters playing their roles, all the same, nah, I'm out.

The Cons is a bit more than £80, but still very reasonably priced bearing in mind you have access to 3 lakes with quality fish in all 3. It's an added bonus that it's very. Hard to gain membership.

Is McTavish still fishing it? Not seen him in years.
Sounded like a madhouse from what I've heard of it. Could have got on years back but never followed it through.

Cons , Fisheries , Savay , Harrow all reasonably priced but virtually impossible to get into.
Still some lovely club waters around you just have to find them and not publicize your captures.

There's been some very forward thinking fisheries officers and club committees in the last 25 years regards carp. Previously it was difficult to get good stocking quality or policy.
Club angler's are now reaping the benefits and good luck to them.

They aren't actually hard to get into at all. Certainly not a closed shop by any means. What pickles peoples brains is the wait for your interview. Best thing to do is get your name on the list. Then forget about it. Go and fish somewhere else and when they come up you get to fish a little bit of carpy paradise.

No nothing like that amount of money. Two of my waters have publicly bans so I can't tell you what I pay but it's a lot less than £1000s and they are imho amongst the best waters in the country. Brilliantly run, brilliantly maintained, safe, secure, great members, loads of facilities. People charge £1000s for tickets cos they get away with it and are pulling peoples pants down.
And like I said my actual syndicate water is £100. The fish in this water are the smallest I fish for by a long way. But size doesn't matter when you have a great ticket. This place is like a little oasis. Tree lined all round. Deep clear water. Loads of snags. Quiet. A lovely place to send an afternoon or a winters day.

I've just joined one like this, middle of nowhere 30 members dug 32 years ago and never been fished. £450 a yr. Happy days

Not always, I became friends with a guy that ran a syndicate type water, we met at a CAA meeting and just hit it off, he asked where I was going on 16th June, don't really know yet, he said come and fish my water I'll get you a season ticket, ok I said but don't bother with the ticket, we met on the 16th and he gave me a ticket, oh god I thought how much will this cost me, £4 , he told me that many well known faces tried to join but he said there is no places, one that everyone knows offered him a large amount of cash but he still refused, he has passed on now but when fishing I always think of him.

Now there's a blast from the past. The CAA eh. I'll never forget the time that fat Frank tried to get into his car outside Bait 78 and the door was jammed on the curb with his massive bulk inside the car. A mate and I had to rock the car backwards and forwards so he could shut the door

My work takes me onto estates just like you describe and they are all strictly private with no fishing on most, one in particular I've had a very close look at allows staff only to fish but none of them are anglers. Another I have become friends with the head groundsman and helped with vermin control and been given his permission to fish but it has taken time to earn his trust and put a foot wrong and I know I would never be allowed near the place again.

A few years back six of us were allowed to fish an old estate lake that as far as I know hadn't been fished for about twenty years. My mate had to put in months of work to wangle that one for us. It was lovely, but it did definitely become a bit of a distraction. Because no one had a clue what was in there, I just couldn't help calling in there all the time to have a mooch about.

I think it's a bit unfair to say that waters charging big money are "pulling people's pants down".
Some syndicates/limited membership waters are lucky to pay very low rents and the inferstructure and stock have been in place for a long time.
Buying and stocking a water is very, very expensive, as are some leases, and people expecting a return on their investment seems reasonable to me.
Don't forget that a lot of the cheap tickets from companies such as RMC etc. were in effect government subsidised.

I do work on a house/estate nr Heathrow airport..lovely lake in the grounds with some right lumps in it.i asked the game keeper if I could have a couple of nights fishing it, hes reply. yes if you don't mind getting shot..

That said my club water has been quiet for 20 years, just me and a handful of guys have grown up fishing it, sadly invaded by bell ends last year so I gave the ticket up.

The danger of club waters. That's why I'd always favour waters that require members to be interviewed. Plus no one drops their tickets for no reason on good society waters, meaning you can't have an influx of bellends in one year, cos only a handful of tickets turn over each year, and who's gonna risk their ticket by proposing a complete Hampton.

My small syndicate is £100 a year, very limited numbers. My other tickets are also unbelievable value.
When I was on Jackdaw, Stuart could have easily charged £1000 a year for that ticket and he'd have sold every one, he's invested thousands of pounds and thousands of hours to make that a special place. He could coin it in, but when I was on there It was about £300, if that. He could have whacked the price right up and pocketed a healthy sum but it wasn't about that.
I personally think a lot of these hyper expensive waters are essentially a commercial enterprise. The needs of the business and the business owner will always be prioritised over the needs of the members. Proper syndicates, societies and owners who are in it for the love of it, prove it can be done to a mega high standard without the need for huge ticket prices.

All of those lakes you mention are business ventures and in it to make money. Plenty of anglers willing to pay top dollar to fish their water. Not many proper syndicates around where people run it for the love.

Totally agree with you especially your last paragraph. There's nothing "essentially" about it. Commercial waters for anglers with fat wallet's, calling themselves syndicated is false advertising. Each to their own though.

Hmm I pay approx £3k a year on x2 syndicates and one club (access to 8 lakes 3 acres to 70+ acres), two have publicity bans and all require proposal and interview to join. The club I waited 13 years for a full membership so have been patient! I know the cost would be prohibative to many but as I see it I/m nearly 60 old and been carp fishing for forty years, I want to fish waters with like minded people and fish knowing my tackle and I am safe from people trying to steal it! I have done my 'apprenticeship' fishing Hampstead ponds, the stow, many Boyer waters in the valley (harefield, Rodney Meadow, Farlows etc) and fished a few club waters in my youth. So for my £3k I get piece of mind the oppotunity to fish for very large english fish and feel safe. This is still less thany many golf clubs and as previously mentioned shoots.

I refuse to join my local club, even though it has a couple of waters with carp to over 30lb, but I can't be bothered competing for bank space with the number of local anglers. Even midweek it can be sewn up in the area the fish are in, and at £130 a season to allow you to fish nights, it is too much for the limited amount of water.
I preferred to travel from Suffolk to the Lee Valley and fish at £160 on Nazeing where there is more bank space and more big fish, over 40lb
This year I was lucky enough to get a ticket on a 45acre lake syndicate with a couple of 40's, yet I have seen a maximum of 10anglers on there at a weekend. £300 well spent simply for the surroundings and quietness.
This is an a county with very few easy to get on waters.
Much better than day ticket waters!
