Looking for warm jacket for the winter.A couple of ones caught my eye first is snugpak sj9 yes I know its warm only downside is its not waterproof do you match it up with the fortis marine to make it waterproof ?. I be using the jacket for my pike fishing as well. Also aqua have brought out a new thermal f12 jacket and trouser which is waterproof but not sure how warm it is. Dont want a heavy weight jacket and dont mind paying if they work. Thank you in advance

Wouldn't you be better off with a fleece, thermals and a rather cheeky bobble hat all wrapped up in a GoreTex jacket? Those sj9's are well warm if you're active and a picklin. Nasty bitey pickles.

I have a fortis shirt 3 and it's perfect spring to autumn but when it's cold the sj9 comes out and that's also brilliant I've also got the sallopettes and it's very rare they get worn if I'm honest but also have a look at the Snugpak Sasquatch as well

Not really. If you open the jacket undo the suspender buckles, then it's easy to get your toys out. If you don't do a crazy dance then the suspenders will stay in place. At first I also thought that it would be a problem, but in reality it wasn't.

I bought an Aldi 'Crane' bib n brace and jacket for last winter, worn for barbel fishing right through and just getting it back into use this autumn.
Cost £45. Superb. Possibly they'll be selling them again soon?

just got a snugpak sasquatch and its super warm (apparently designed for limited activity as well so perfect for fishing). Not waterproof but am going to combine it with the snugpak poncho for downpours.
If you want super warm and waterproof the only way forward is a sea fishing floatation suit but you have to get over the bright colours!

I bought the Aldi bib and brace last year and cant fault it, lovely and warm and about £25 I think.
I couple it with a sasquatch and never feel cold.

I bought one a few years ago and it is still going strong. Think I also paid c.£25 for it and wouldn't hesitate on buying another as and when this one has it's day as assuming it survives this winter, that is £10 a year and it keeps me very warm and dry

I recently took delivery of this suit
First impressions are it's a lot of suit for the money
Well made and comfortable to wear
Although I'm yet to wear it outside I'm sure it's going to be just as good as it looks
Hopefully I'll get to try it at the end of October providing the borders aren't close by then!

It's all about the layers.
Not raining - thermal leggings or tracky bottoms with Wofte Tech trousers over the top on the bottom half and thermal long sleeved t with short sleeved t over, then hoody then Fortis SJ9
Raining - exactly the same but Trakker XP Base mid-layer jacket under a Fortis Marine jacket

I would say say true to uk size like what you would expect of sainsbury, asda, marks and sparks.

Wore them from 5pm yesterday Gerry
Had a very good night re fish so kept them on all night
I was toasty warm on the top of the bag and thst was in an open fronted tempest brolly. I did wake at 1 ish cold
And got in the bag, bib n brace as well. But then I purposely
Don't have a hot bag for thst reason. Kept them on untill midday next day. I loved kneeling around when dealing with fish at 3am and. Not even feeling the cold. And wet.

Yes mate. Though I can only compare them to my snugpak softie jacket. As ive never felt the need before. Previously it was setup in cargos. Then stick on some Polar fleece trousers. Real winter I had to take them off and put merino leggings on. Any colder and I just got in the bag.
This bib n brace felt like the snugpak. Wether they are warm enough is subjective to the individual and how cold they fish or how they feel the cold. But I liked the shiny inner, meant they were easy off and on. And the zip flare leg helped. But I could close them and velcro tighter so they didn't drag on floor
No idea of quality etc. But Prologic are often N overlooked. Brand here in the UK yet they are always decent stuff.

Depends how big your stuff sack is, but I'd say you'd need around the size of a supermarket carrier bag.

Snugpak jackets - the sizing is just awful. No two seem to fit the same. I frankly gave in trying to find that fitted properly. Never had an issue with a jacket of any kind before. Quality questionable as well! Made in England usually means crap quality anyway!

Go on Military 1st website, loads are great gear to keep you warm and dry, way better than the dross from tackle companies. Another good place to look is Craghoppers, when they have a sale on, which is quite often... they do waterproof jackets that are, waterproof. Thermal jackets that actually keep you warm... always a carpy green version to chose from as well.

Have a snugpak fortis sj9 which I rate very highly. Yes sizing may differ but honestly one of the best thermal jackets I have worn. Have numerous mates who swear by it in the military. I have never had any quality issues with it. Each to their own I guess . Just thought I'd give my honest opinion.
I dont know about the latest stuff or the Fortis link. But i bought an original snugpak sleeka softie many years ago.
Everyone said they run big. About one size above most clothes shops. They were right.
Over the years, two fishing buddies have admired it and bought one. And the sizing was still true for them.

Completely agree with this last year I bought a sj9, the first one turned up with a rip in it but it fitted fine (size large) but had to send it back to total fishing tackle for them to replace it, they sent out exactly the same jacket in the same size but wouldn't even do up it was more like a small. I even had to check the label to see if they sent me the same size because of the difference.
As for my winter clothing I use a nice thermal base layer,a t shirt, a tracksuit on top, decent wool socks, then berghaus water proof trousers and either a trakker xp jacket (with the base layer zipped in) or my snukpack sj9.
A decent set of clothing, a decent sleeping bag is all you need for the winter and your be fine. I fish all winter no matter the weather and this keeps me warm all winter

lets be honest here we havent had a cold winter for years ???
if its really cold I wear a Snugpak Venture Pile Shirt with just a very thin cotton tee shirt underneath I know its best worn next to skin but it helps to prolong the washing times and craghopper winter lined trousers and a Prologic thermo suit on top impossible to get cold in any temps you will see in this country
