Looking for a quality Bivvy with a high front and flat ish back ...
I think I've narrowed it down to the three listed in the title, thoughts please

I would not say the tempest has a flat back.
The total I had was proper flat.
The frontier looks in the video like a proper flat back.

Wouldn't buy the Fox until all the poor field testing public have fallen foul of Fox's usual trap. Wait until the MKII is out, then have a look.

There's also the Cyprinus Typhoon MH that might be worth a look?

Although I am satisfied with my quest outer block, I am looking for something bigger

I see it doesn't appear Fox do a Camo version of the new Frontier.

cant fault my tempest.

good friend of mine has the titan, id sooner have my tempest composite with skullcap and wrap for the price of the titan.

I love my tempest, I have the v2 bivvy and the tempest 100T wouldn't swap them for anything. I had the Titan hide xl before hand and the finish on it was awful, don't get me started on the nash customer service either got to be one of the worst in the business.

and the fact if you're over 5ft11 and not built like a rake you cant get out of the hide without doing an impression of a tortoise

Any updates on this matter quys? Really interested in the people who had a Tempest before and now a Frontier.

A word for the Titan. Nash seems to be a dirty word in some circles on here.
Spent a fair bit of time looking at larger one man bivvies and talking to users and every Titan owner was really happy. In my use of my T1 camo in all weathers I can't fault it, summer, winter, storms and heatwaves it performs without fault. Really spacious, really comfortable and easy and quick to put up. Two issues are the price, if you buy the bivvy, heavy duty groundsheet and winter wrap it's a lot of money and if you carry the whole caboodle including the inner capsule it's heavy. Mostly I srip out a lot of stuff and reduce the weight for shorter sessions.
Wouldn't change it. If you can afford one it will do everything.

I would go for the Titan (have my second one, can't fault it)

Titan hide, probably my best bivvy, been faultless tbh.

I have a Nash Oval Canvas a Hog and Nylon Winter Skin have used it since 97, I also have a powerplus professional between them they do all I need and have done for many a year. I can't help but consider the Armodillo and every other Bivvy thats come ever since. I finally bit the bullet and purchased a Nash Titan Camo T1 and over wrap. A pretty penny that cost more than my two other bivvies however I do rate it highly. I did send my Titan back for a replacement and after 3 months it was exchanged (this was last Xmas and **** was happening). Anyway the replacement was/is good, not 100% perfect mind as the seam tape on the peak wasn't particularly well applied. I've used gorilla clear tape to help reinforce all the critical areas such as the inner capsule.

My hog had the gorilla treatment and a have a bandaid (plaster) on one spoke due to a rivet being proud so my advice if nothing's perfect...be prepared to purchase a decent product and have on going maintenance. I've had to use dental floss on pegging points of my canvas due to high winds etc. I've used mesowax when I first purchased it and now storms canvas re-proofer it's repeals water extremely well.

Stripped down it goes up quickly and weighs little more than my hog. I did purchase the extreme canopy and it's great get two body bag sized bags didn't thrill me. My powerplus has a smaller pack down size and lighter compared to the complete Nash Camo T1 and it bigger (I can fit two normal sized bedchairs in it, and I only hear compliments about it from fellow anglers), it's not perfect though due to its design and a ground sheet that only covers the inner capsule it's let down when fishing stages whereby the outer sheet gets wet and I have to beg the outer skin out to prevent it setting out the inner capsule, this did lead to me replacing all the pegging rubbers, Guy rope clips for florescent ones and the black guy ropes for DPM paracord.... I know.... it was at he beginning of the year and I was suffering withdrawals due to lock down.

The fox had just started to be advertised so I can't include it my main reason for the Nash was the autumn winds and fishing near trees. Even with the Titan I'd question condition etc it's more a case of conditions changing whilst there. Equally the Tracker tempest 100 wasn't about, however they never caused me to bite.

Anyway as for size and comfort it's lovely and although I returned the extreme canopy I will look out for a second hand or reduced one and grab it at a better price.

Hopefully some of that is of use. Bivvies are a personal thing it's what your happy to live with. I do think that it's worth making the effort of your on the bank for 18 hours plus.

I have had a Titan T1 (green one) and to be honest, I sold it.

I sold it because I noticed the bag it comes in (made from the same material as the bivvy) had tears in it after very little use and thin parts (as if one of the 2 layers had cracked/come loose from the other) that I could see light through.

Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a very sturdy and quality bivvy, but this made me doubt the quality of the fabric.

What I still like about the Nash bivvy's are the build in peak. With the other 2 bivvy's you have to buy a skull cap to get the same effect.

Frontier XD vs T150

Frontier Xd will give you almost the same space inside for a 45 cm less wide bivvy, my mate had the T100 he sold it after he saw my Frontier Xd he now has the Frontier X

Nash T1 bag isn't the same thickness of material at all buddy.

Might be the same colour but that's it


I rate my T2 camo highly and won't be using anything else as yet. For short sessions have the Titan XL Camo which I brought as the T2 is so good. Material is streets ahead of the other stuff I have seen.

Got the new camo hide xl and can't really fault it, ticks all the boxes for me! (Quick set up, small packdown, dark, vents, huge inside)
Easily the best bivvy I've owned

For pretty much most of my uk fishing I use my tempest 100t . I have all the modular components. The whole system stays in my van. And I take out what I need from it for each session. For France or week long sessions in the uk I do prefer to use my tempest v2 bivvy system. Although not as tall as the 100t the foot print is a lot bigger. Again I have all the add ons like the extended wrap and utility front . So if my mrs wants to come I can to turn it into a 2 man . The key thing for both of these bivvies for me is versatility.

Not trying to argue with you, but how do you know they are different? I really have tried both fabrics side by side and to me they looked like they were the same. Same thickness, same color, same texture, even the 'shine' of the inside layer of the fabric was the same, to me.

And I liked the design of the titan t1 very much, but I felt like I didn't have a choice, really. Didn't want to wait until cracks also were to be found in my bivvy itself too.

HI - got a tempest 100 advanced and a titan T1. The titan has more usable space inside, MUCH higher and completely flat back. The Tempest is in a better material and a smaller footprint so use the tempest for short sessions and the titan if i am staying more than 2 nights.

Depends on the places you fish but if small swims with not much space the tempest would be a better bet.


If i was buying now i would go for the Titan however the frontiers do look good, mate has had the smaller version since march last year are really rates it.

On the material the Tempest is much better but i have never had a problem with my titan.

Would recommend the Tempest or Fox, I had both the hide and hide xl and the build quality on both was shocking.
Tempest is light years ahead on both the material quality, pole quality and overall finish of the shelter.

I haven't owned the fox but had a look in the tackle shop and looks a great bit of kit, a few more features than a tempest but its only the first release so depends if you fancy taking the risk!

I hope you are joking about Tempest pole strength? They may as well be made of paper mache because at least that way they would have some form of structural strength. This is on the V2 onwards poles because the V1 were stronger.

This is something I find hard sometimes of forums. One person says a great product while another says it's crap. I would expect when it comes to quality of used materials (not design factors) , one products shines and makes other products look bad.

Been a tempest user since they first came out. From the original v1 bivvy and v1 air. then the v2 tempest air, bivvy system , Xl and brolly. Out of all of them . It was the v2 brolly that I didn't get on with just because of its lack of space.. Now I've just the v2 bivvy system with all the add ons and accessories and the 100t And only did I have to replace a pole on the v2 air. And that was simply because I fell on it 🤷‍♂️ So out 35 plus poles only one gave up on me

I've had an original tempest bivvy, V2 Brolly and now 100T and never had a problem with a pole or a leak. I was tempted by the Hide XL for a change, but went with the 100T and I'm happy with it.

I too have had Tempests since they first came out and had to replace the front poles on a Tempest V2 3 times. I have seen others have exactly the same multiple problems and other people not have any, all these people putting them up correctly. The Tempest was a brilliant design from the beginning just let down by lack of attention to detail and terrible quality control. Personally now I think the Nash and Fox options are better😎

I've read so many posts about all these bivvies. The conclusion I've come to is that quality control in China is like British Leyland in the 70's after a boozy lunch on a Friday afternoon. You're lucky to get one that isn't a lemon . it's a lottery.

I've had my current tempest for just over 2 years fish every other week end and it is still like new. I also had a v2 beforehand and not once have I ever had a bent pole so god knows what others are doing with them because I'm not exactly gentle with it.
Like I've said below I wouldn't touch the Nash options if you paid me I've had to many bad experiences with them and the build quality is shocking not to mention the customer service!
I can't comment on the frontier I haven't had one but I will say it is growing on me, maybe my next purchase at some point in the future

Who are all these people you speak of? And how do you know them all ? And how is it some of the poles are just **** and not all of them. Surely they are all made to the same spec and the material . There were some issues when the tempest was being put up with them front panel in . Trakker sorted that out within the instruction paperwork. I've put my tempest up before now with the fabric twisted around the bottom of the pole and it's still gone up without bending anything.

Yes they are, stop being a fanboy. I'm old enough and ugly enough to know when something has issues. As stated I have owned Tempests since the very beginning and never had an issue with the V1 poles so i do know how to put them up. The V2 poles are a completely different kettle of fish. As for another question how am I seeing all these damaged ones well quite a few are in military events so I do get to see quite a few different anglers and it is always one of the front poles that goes.
I'm not in the habit of slagging things off for no reason and certainly won't do it unless I have first hand experience of it.

One thing I've always done is try to be objective and as said I've never commented on anything unless i have first hand experience. I always loved the Tempest design and it was my go to until this year. The only issue I had was with those poles, i just wish they were of better quality

I'm not a fanboy (very rich comment that from captain fox himself ), but a long term tempest user. The poles are not weak, and don't just break or bend unless you are a hamfisted oaf. You only need to see the sheer number of tempests on the bank to know just how good they are.

You are right, I am a ham fisted oaf but I too am a long term Tempest user, going all the way back from getting 1 of the first that came into Leslies of Luton. I also agree that there are lots on the bank and as already said I've always loved the design, Captain Fox not changing until the Frontier itself came out
My only issue has been with the poles. I was able to source them generally through Johnson Ross, however others have not been so lucky, some even sourcing from the continent because they could not get in the UK. If a spare part is continually going out of stock due to sales then straightaway that says to me that maybe there may be an issue.

I may be hamfisted but that doesn't mean I don't know how to put 1 up. The V2 is the only bivvy that I have managed to break or bend a pole on, this has included V1's, Armos, Evos, AI's and lots of others including various brollies over the years. I've also never had any shelter leak on me, maybe I'm lucky on this front? As for the Fabsil the only products I've ever put it on have been Trakker, but just for my piece of mind and never because they have leaked.
My issue with the poles is the bend in aluminium, I have limited knowledge in engineering but surely this is creating a fault point? Was it done this way purely because its cheaper to produce?

The poles do bend and snap on the Tempest's,it's not just you.It does not help that they are so bloody stiff to set up when the material is new.I have a tempest v2 bivvy but it's going and I'm getting a Longtop from The Tacklebox,only had positive feedback with these from users on here.If you want one of the Tempest type bivvies then I think the Nash is still the one to have,stronger poles,thicker material and buying a trakker bivvy is a gamble.It took me three attempts to get a good one

Tbh mate I don't have the time or inclination to watch the dross on there. Some people do seem to have bad "luck" when it comes to breaking kit. This broke, that broke and then blame the kit when usually it's just them being heavy handed. In all my years I've barely broken any kit at all, but then again I do look after my gear and dont force things

I have an Armo and have had a few variations of the tempest. I like the Armo as a bivvy and will occasionally use it if I go abroad but breaking down the poles seems like such a faff after the tempest. Now on the 100T and with the extra room can see me using the Armo even less.

Tempest material is thicker and completely blackout. Titan you can see sunlight coming through. Sure they are both plenty waterproof enough but the tempest just feels nicer.

Have Nash changed the material?The Titan I had was far better material than the aquatexx on my v2 tempest bivvy.It was thicker and darker inside than my v2,it was the material that made it so heavy and the fact the poles are alot stronger than the tempest

I agree. Can't answer for other manufacturers but the material on my T1 camo is thick and does not let light through at all. Titans may not be your choice but when it comes to session bivvies they are the real deal. Out in mine now till Friday. Got the winter skin on and despite frost last night, not a drop of condensation. Strong tough and weather proof.

I bought this recently and it's awesome! Nearlly 1/3 of the price of the tempest X and its identical apart from the mechanism. Why would you pay nother £700 for a badge???

Cyprinus MH DPM Ripstop for me.

It is quite a large footprint, I would say a 1.5man by modern day bivvy size but does have gd headroom.
I am 6ft 5 and can now comfortably sit on bedchair without touching the inner vapour shield. (Vapour shield is a bit of a gimmick IMO as you don't get any condensation whatsoever, atleast with the skull cap on anyway.)

Just to clarify i also have a Tempest Brolly ... Its an ok bit of kit, and comes into its own as a great open front shelter , but for me, once you start adding infills, groundseets and Skullcaps, it loses the appeal. I would take an Armo or Cayman .. just my favoured style of shelter

Out of all three bivv's, the Tempest seems to me to be the one I'd go for most.

The Titan does look good, what puts me off of it is the mincy little vents, and only two at the rear, plus the clip in groundsheet, that is such a bad design. Yeah, I get the whole capsule concept, but say you just want to use a groundsheet - like I always do - without the inside malarkey going on, you simply can't; would be a right agg to have to clip and unclip each and every time...I'm out.

The Fox one does look good, the big thing that puts me off is it's made by Fox (yawn, Fox bashing alert) and having had a few Fox shelters, I'm not willing to part with my hard earned and be left with a pile of annoying garbage a year or so later. I'll wait the Frontier out and see what others make of it after putting it through the mincer so to speak.

These are only my opinions based on my own needs, we've all got different needs and wants and that's a good thing, keeps the world spinning 😉

Each to their own. However you can use a T1 without the capsule and have a groundsheet, no problem. Mine is set up behind me now, bivvy, winter wrap and heavy duty groundsheet. If and when I need the capsule I'll clip it in. No mozzies or bug uglies around for the next four months.

Can you use a groundsheet as you would any other bivv? Sounds interesting. As many vents as possible to be fair. I melt in the summer months, so the greater the airflow the better for me, especially so as I suffer from pr*klly heat, which is nasty. The ones on the Titan look poor.

Absolutely, got it set up that way now, sorry I can't do pics. The two rear vents stretch the length of my bed chair and the front vents take up nearly the whole of the triangular panels either side of the door and the door has a 3/4 mesh panel as well. Plenty of ventilation. If you want more, the whole front zips off easily with one zip, goes back on just as easily. You don't have to use the capsule and so far I haven't needed it

From the video's I've seen, those rear vents look tiny in comparison to others out there on the market. The other thing with the side vents is that when a breeze is coming from the side you catch it, with no side vents you just won't.

Never had a Titan, and watching some videos they peeked my interest, just the small letterbox size vents put me off, also the rizla thin material is a tad gash, the reality might be somewhat different maybe out in use. Never had a Tempest and they are very expensive, practically a grand with the cap, all the same, the massive vents really does tick a box.

Not made my mind up on anything right now, love my Pioneer, just the crunched up bit sitting on a bedchair gets a bit much after a while.

Sounds as if the Titan ain't for you. But the way you describe things can be ridiculous. The material is not rizla thin, it is strong, fully waterproof and dries quickly. It is a modern polymer material.
If you want the canvas like aquatex bivvies or similar that have been around for 30 yeard buy one.
The vents are not letterbox size even if they may not be the size or in the places you want them. There are a lot of products out there. Choose the one you want, buy it and enjoy it and leave us all to do the same.

It's only an opinion on my part 👍

I'll be more than willing to change my mind if I saw one in the flesh and what I've been saying is totally wrong, I'd be silly to do otherwise, you know? Unfortunately there's nowhere that I can think of where I can view different manufacturers bivvs to be able to draw any conclusions other than watch reviews etc on YouTube and the likes.

As I said before, I've got my own needs and wants, they may well be different from anyone elses and if my views/opinions/needs/wants differ from anyone elses, so be it, makes for a colourful tapestry instead of some bland grey thing where we all like the same things and what-not 👍

And therein lies the problem. How can you have a valid opinion on something you have never seen. What you are passing on is other people's ( most of whom you don't know and have never met) views and comments from Internet sources.
I knew I was going to be spending £1000 plus to get a session bivvy and all the bells and whistles so I made the effort over time to see some bivvies on the bank and talk to owners as well as watch and read reviews and adverts. I chose the Nash, its quality and it suits my needs. You may well choose a different manufacturer to suit yours.
I feel my views at least have some validity as I have spent hundreds of hours in mine and I am writing this from said bivvy on the side of a lake. Blanking unfortunately🤔🤔🤔

Do I listen to a qualified doctor with years of experience in respiratory disease with the technical knowledge to understand how a vaccine functions ( I am not in any way comparing myself to such a person, I simply own and use a bivvy) or some bloke down the pub or a nitwit influencer on you tube who have no knowledge or experience of the subject matter, who are as you say "entitled" to their opinion. Yep I remember that too, was the best thing ever until he used it in the rain and it leaked like a sieve iirc.

Same as the guy who spammed every bivvy thread with how good the Frontier was before it even came out. Then when he finally got it had to send it back because the stitching was cr*p.

The Titan fabric being ‘rizla thin' is a good one, they must fill the poles with sand then because the thing weighs a ton!

Not sure it leaked,I think it was just the stitching wasn't right like bluebell has just said.I know they have not had many returns with the frontier,after having loads of issues with supabrollys I won't buy a fox shelter though

The titans ground sheet is part of the inner capsule. I purchased the heavy duty ground sheet and use the Titan with that and leave the inner capsule out unless I'm fishing more than a night.

As for the vents they are plenty big enough imo.

I have had the 100T since just before lock down and like it. Easy to setup, pack down, loads of room without being a 1.5 man tent. At 6' I like the height. I have the cap and am tempted to go for a wrap or the social cap. But I have a 2 man armo4 if I want to be social!

Question for the people that have one of these bivvies with the rear or site vents:

Do you think the mosquito mesh wil last for years and years?
Because the mesh is maybe the weakest part?
I have an Aqua Armo Mk1 and it is still going strong, the only thing that is damaged is the mesh in the front door.

Personally I don't care much for the mozzies, but it would a bit of shame if the mesh starts ripping after a few years

I've done away with the skull cap since getting the skull wrap . Doesn't weigh much more or take much more room on the barrow either. I think its a great bit of kit

I got the 100t I also sold my skull cap once I bought the skull wrap it's not actually that much bigger when packed away, I have the social cap for when I want to take my daughter or for longer sessions does everything I need it to do, I've had mine for 2 years now and wouldn't swap it for anything else
