I know this is going to sound negative, and I'm not saying this just to be, well, negative, but that was some seriously boring stuff. Watched about 10 mins and turned it off. I suppose the guys trying to do something different like verbalising his thoughts, that just didn't do it. Nope, not at all.

Watching someone fish the Rise is about as dull as it gets. PainfulI. Doesn't inspire me one little bit. One man's muddy farm puddle rammed full of huge carp and stuffed to the gills of slathering at the mouth angler might be one man's mecca, to me, it's this man's hell.

I've been tempted to do something myself. Then I think to myself, as good as I might do it, isn't it saturated in respect to carp angling? Might do one on trying to catch the record Stickleback - got a super secret spot that I've kept under wraps. Been watching the mother of all Sticklebacks for ages now. The girth on it beast!

Totally agree, though I couldn't have put it quite as eloquently.

Nice piece of filming, but the narrative was cringeworthy, a sort of David Attenborough meets severe asthma.

Also agree on that sort of venue... Nothing that could possibly interest me less.
I got to the bit where he'd just woken up disappointed at 7:30am... 3 and a half hours after first light before I could take no more and turned it off.

I don't get the self filmed YouTube stuff at all. I know it appeals to a massive range of anglers, but from my point of view, it's horrendously cringe and makes the angler look egotistical and a lot less competent than they probably are.

Even when done professionally, there's only a few who can really pull it off. The likes of Terry, Gaz Fareham, Carl & Alex, Samir etc.

I find it very annoying that these guys talk so much about getting motivated.

It's hard enough to get a swim for a lot of people as it is, the thought that the banks are full of these berks forcing themselves to go when they don't really want to is just tedious.

I agree, sadly. A lot of effort for a rather uninteresting venue. Is that they guys genuine voice or has he put it on?

Having watched a few of Simons videos I actually admire him for trying to do something different. He does seem to like Essex carp syndicates though so perhaps there is some sort of tie in ....!
Have to agree about the choice of venue though. Give me a proper low stocked big pit any day.

Couldn't agree more. If you can't get motivated for a day on the bank then don't go? Have a day with the Mrs go out with the kids! It's fishing, it's great and we all love it but the day I have to force myself to go is the day I give up.

I started watching this vid a few days ago on YouTube as i had previously watched another of this guy's videos.
Trouble is the previous video i saw of him was about his return to carp fishing after many years away and him buying new gear etc. and finding his feet again
Which was sort of ok.
He is a very good photographer/videographer so the video quality is excellent.
However then i watched this latest video and it was revealed he was on "The Rise" and then all of a sudden it becomes apparent to me that he is fishing a Syndicate with a waiting list in operation and a ticket price of £900.

Sorry but for me that just doesn't add up, for someone who has just returned to carp fishing after a long lay off.
It just doesn't smell right, if you know what i mean.

Before I posted I thought, should I, shouldn't I, after all, at least the guy is prepared to put himself out there in the fireing line so to speak, unlike me. I'm not doing anything better.

Life's a rich tapestry, it takes all sorts. For me, these sorts of videos just don't give any oxygen to my fishing flame, although, these types of videos may well do it for others. Saying all of that, maybe the style and content might change and adapt over time and turn into a goldmine of interest.

I'm a fussy viewer of fishing videos. I know they get a load of flack, and half heartedly clicked on yet another Korda video [sigh] but this time, thank God it peaked my interest...the one where Mr Fairbrass and co went to France and fished that 900/1000 acre inland sea. That was very good, not so much on the fishing front, more so watching Mr Fairbrass come undone. The lucky charm stone bit cracked me up, "stop hurting me" lol.

The good ones are like rare precious stones. There was one that Trakker did recently with the guy trailblazing across Europe called Inside Operation Freedom. Man alive, that's some interesting guy, well, so I think anyway.

Something that really, like really gets on my tits and that's all the rage at the moment is the slow-mo gig. FFS, enough of the slowed down bulls**t already! Stop it...now! Guys doing these blogs shlow-mo'ing whenever they get the chance seem to me to be as bad as musicians constant overuse of Autotune.

Anyway, I genuinely wish the guy well. *The Rise* lol.

P.s, where's the videos of guys like me screaming like a nutter at yet another tufty picking up my baits? 'c*********nts' at the top of my voice. Come on, let's get 4 realz with dis sheeyt, gets me.

I just couldn't get into it. Gave it 10 mins but couldn't last any longer, found it quite boring

I'm still trying too work out if it's a piss take or not, David Attenborough after smoking 40 marlboro reds!

I have just watched this, in the background like, for a laugh...judging by the comments from the Barry Norman's on here. I don't get it, I mean...it's good. Brilliantly shot, none of that generic drum n bass, no Bruvs or Lovely Days.

He has done his own thing and I liked it. He even made that big stockpond seem quite atmospheric!

Many are trying and failing, mainly because they just copy what everyone else does, and it's been done to death since EB1.

I don't need to see your super fast journey along the motorway, or you eating crisps on the Eurotunnel whilst listening to chase and status. Lets be honest, It wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for 99% of Nash employees.

I don't know what it is, but an hour of Terry Hearn sat on a boat or sat in front of a fire in a tramps jumper absolutely pisses over 99% of anything else on Youtube

Couldn't agree more!

agree with how odd the Attenborough style is. But it elongates the video, otherwise it would be half the length (which would be better imo)

What happened to people just talking normally to a camera - like Terry does?

The vids themselves are the sales tactic. Every piece of clothing in those vids has ESP plastered on it.

They are awesome vids, but lets get it right, they are a marketing initiative. Simple as that.

Nice to see the lake was rammed out with anglers. Like we all can relate to this, rocking up to an empty lake.

I have heard that this place shuts once they start spawning/ post spawning for a period, the paying £900 members cannot fish, giving the fish a rest whilst they recover, and yet certain people/companies can fish the lake during this times.
Baited up swims etc...

It's done in a far more discreet way by not telling you to buy X hook or Y hook link to do something.

Which makes for a more enjoyable watch IMO

Terry Hearn is engaging and there's a likelihood that you'll learn something worthwhile. ESP videos fortunately haven't got a Drum and Bass soundtrack which helps too.

I like to watch the Totally Awesome Fishing Chanel. It's a pleasant break from the carp content.

Keith who does The Honest Carpy Blogs has been quite for some time. Always liked his content. There's a guy doing something totally different from the heard.

It's the soft sell. Not the hard sell. Shove it in your face and tell you your a loser if your not using it. It's still marketing. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone has to make a living even people who can look like bank tramps but live in a house and have a boat on the Thames. Hype is hype sometimes it's subtle but usually it's just hidden.

Is he putting that voice on for effect? Sounds like he's rolling around a hot spud in his mouth.

I just flicked through it to see what you are all whinging about and it looks fine to me, the filming and editing are spot on and the guy obviously has a sense of humour which always helps in this game, maybe a more interesting lake would help

also I might think differently if I watched the whole thing

I really enjoy the feel of it. It's nothing too serious, and nice to see a different style.

Watching back to one of the earlier videos, Simon mentions he's coming back to Carp Fishing after a break, and it certainly looks like he caught some lovely fish. Perhaps if he falls back in love with the sport, we may see some different lakes.

to be fair, it was well shot and not the normal dribble about bait and rigs

I spat a bit of tea out when he mentioned getting into his 'sleep system'.

Even that Canadian astronaut bloke who did all the films from the International Space Station hasn't got one of them! He demonstrates how his 'sleeping bag' works in space.

I still think it was good though.

I switched off when he made a cup of tea. No dirty spoon so it's not all bad.

Bit of a strange video I thought , who gets passionate about a purpose built irrigation pond ( hole in the ground ) stuffed full of let's say commercial big fish ? I could understand the narration and superb filming if it was filmed on a proper water , he needs to be watching some Terry vids not David Attenborough
