This stuff has a very good reputation from what I have read.

In your opinion is it drastically different in quality to the cheaper base mixes out there at 6 quid a kilo ?

Thanks.

Thanks folks.

That's what I wanted to hear. Need an edge on the hard estate lake I am fishing.

I'm using his stuff at the minute. I'm new to bait rolling but his stuff rolled a dream first time. I spoke to JB at length about a bait and he couldn't help enough. He told me About the core ingredients and why they where included etc. Being new to rolling bait I honestly couldn't tell you if it's great or 2 quids worth But what I do have is confidence in JB having spoke to him about various things he really knows his stuff and that's good enough for me. I would use his stuff with confidence

Your confidently buying a high quality product.

You could buy the ingredients in and get a bait rolling company to roll it for you, the price per kg is getting towards shop prices (not the cheap stuff!) but you'll have ultra high quality bait you can rely on.

Very good stuff that mr baker produces. Proper basemix with good ingredients, wish more companies would take note.

Had some good advice from Mr Baker, in the past
Funny thing though ,,, going off topic abit, but JB strongly advocates the use of minute levels of flavour, as his flavours are very strong, both for feed & hookbaits. Max 1.5 - 2ml was recommended, but i decided to do 2 batches of popups, one at the recommended flavour level, and the other with 5X times the recommended dosage

Fished side by side, since the start of the season, results so far :-

1X flavour level = 5% catch rate
5X flavour level = 95% catch rate

Carp in this lake are known to respond better to over - flavoured

I would not hesitate to recommend John Baker bait.

I emailed him and described the lake I fish, the stock, and what most people do, and he emailed me back with advice re base mix and flavour combinations which worked really well. His gear isn't cheap, but he doesn't advocate the use of large quantities, so it's a cost effective choice at the end of the day.

Wow ... that is a bit of a interesting preference!
But his flavour/attractors are top notch

I think I will give his bio shellfish mix ago.

Luckily for me he is based 30 minutes away which has got to be better than buying from a shop that could have low turnover of stock.

Been mixing his flavours for a while now. I love using his Dairy Cream as a base when making a creamy flavour mix.

I have also mixed a flavour called Craba Salar, guess what is in that lol.

Nice gear but well over-priced IMO

Milky1 is the one for me! That stuff is pure dynamite and his plum is the best around imho.

I am yet to have a play with Milky 1. What is the difference between that and Dairy Cream?

Milky1 to my mind is the closest thing I have ever found to the original scopex (and probably with good reason as it was John who supplied Hutchy with the recipe one drunken night!).

That JB Plum has been doing the business for a very long time

I've caught some good Barbel on his Frost & Flood mix in the past.

Interesting re: Milky 1

Ala salar and plum are brilliant. Ala salar is actually used in one of kennys asylum baits everyone rates so highly. Plum in a fishmeal is just fantastic. If it was easier to come by ready rolled I'd never use anything else

I bought a couple of bottles after reading on here how similar it is to the original scopex and, to my mind, it really isn't that similar. Mind you it's got to be 20 odd years since the proper scopex was available.

That being said, the Milky is a winner. A really good flavour, very strong, and it's the only synthetic flavour I now use. They like it!

Btw I didn't thing that John introduced scopex to Rod, I thought that was the Pukka Salmon or possibly Monster Crab I may be wrong on that mind as it's a long, long time ago!

I am all out of Plumb at the moment. But I do have a base mix I'd love to test it in. Maybe in autumn now.

Interesting. He is only charging what every other bait company is mainline-sticky etc. Fair enough you have to add a few eggs and roll it yourself. I think if you took JB base mix and mainline or sticky to someone who really knew there bait and asked what bait contains the best ingredients etc. I certainly don't think JB would be at the bottom of that list. Meanwhile mainline charging 15 quid a kilo in the shops. I think I'll stick with JB

Yes absolutely, I can't buy a bite of some super duper pop ups out they JB base mix and cork balls tempt them though.

I costed it at £9.50 for a kilo of mix plus labour

I've used JB for 25 years now and along with ABS they are the best in the business imho.

His Crab and Ala Salar @ a ratio of 65/35. Bloody reeks. I also mix it with a squid based liquid.

its quality bait made on a small scale and mixed by hand, i thinks its unfair to compare with mass produced bait from other manufacturers
