What's people thoughts on the best mini big pits. Mainly for fishing anything from the margins to 100 yards. Currently thinking about the emcast 25a or ultegra 5500 but open to suggestions.

Emcast 25a's are an absolute bargain imo moving up ultegra ci4 5500 are vgood and up more twin power sw are great.

I have a pair of emcast 25a's and think they are a great reel for the money. As an overall package I probably would choose them over my cast'izms due to the slower clutch and greater bang for buck. The Cast'izm's are lighter and more refined but not by enough to justify the gulf in price.

Just got a set of the emcast 25A myself to put on my pace compacts for stalking etc but to be honest they feel like they will be a perfect match for my 12ft soft actioned rods too. Lovely size!

Couldn't tell tou off the top of my head, have 12lb technium on them - all I know I've never needed more on them.
The box only gives capacity for 0.3/0.32/0.35mm, if it helps it states 270m/300yds of 0.35mm.

You'll get well over 300 of .37 on the 25 spools. I back my castizms and get to fill 3 with .35 1000m spool.
What you will find is at 100 yards with .37 your spool will look empty, brilliant reels but the spool sure empty's quick. I also have 3 castizm feeder reels and to give you a gauge of spool depth I can get 176 yards of .35 on those.

Others to consider, Sonik Xtractor 5000 (advertised 415grams) and Okuma Inception (advertised 460 grams) .
I recommend to stay clear of the Castizm unless you love a very fast drag.

I know its only superficial but i love the look of the emblem 25c qd which i think is fairly similar in spec to the castizm minus the mag seal i think.

They're a little bigger than a 6000 baitrunner. In shimano terms they're about ultegra 5500 possibly a smidgeon smaller and in daiwa terms they're in between a 2600 and emblem 5000.

Thanks for the reply but I think I posted this on wrong thread, still though, xtds were perfect size for me for all round use don't really want to go smaller or much larger but I've now sold my xtds as they were crap so need something quick. Anybody used windcast zs?

yes, the low retrieve rate (89cm) would be my only criticism of the FX9 reels .... I still prefer them over Shimano XTB & XTC's i had in the past though.

Yeah I was close to getting some Fx9's a few years back but that did put me off... I'm currently using Okuma INC-6000's on my 10ft rods and they were quoted as having 104cm and are super light.

I bought some Okuma Inc 6000 during lockdown so not used yet. They are on my 2.25lb rods which suit perfectly .... I would say i prefer the FX9's on my heavier rods though, they just feel a bit better to me

Very good reels mate. Dont come with a spare spool but u can buy one and still be cheaper than other reels. Clutch is so smooth. Adam Penning couldnt rate them high enough when spoke to him about them. For £60 max these are a bargain.

From the very limited use I've had with them they seem very good. I've still got a spare Okuma Custom Black reel I use on the spomb / marker rod and I prefer these for short to medium range.
Longevity wise who knows (I still have an old Okuma baitrunner I've owned since 1998 and that is still running fine).
They are a hell of a lot of reel for the money... shop around and you can get them for around £46 each. Think I got all three for £125 posted.

A mate of mine has the shimano 5500 xtd on his 10ft rods.He just can't seem to get on with them and is thinking of some of the Okuma Inc 6000,would he be making a mistake changing.

Good deal, i paid £130 for set of Inc 6000 ..... Agree with previous comments aswell .... The XTB's, XTC's and XTD's are some of the most over rated reels on the market.

On 10ft rods, definately (i have) .... The Okuma's are light, simple, functional and a steal .... I cant comment on longevity as got mine during lockdown

Off the back of this thread I checked parkfield angling and went for the okuma reels + Sonik rod deals
Turns out after I ordered the rods were out of stock but they replaced with more expensive ones and honoured the order..great customer service!

ive used okuma for years and theres old threads on here where i got slated for selling my shimano baby pits and going back to okuma, but there is one bug bear i always had with them all and thats if your carefull the line goes behind the spool, and it fiss me off when that happens, so i went over to the penn afinity with the wiper blade and i love that ,
i would love these little okuma for my 9ft rods, and to the people wondering how they will last im sure they will last very well, i just hope they dont suffer the line going behind the spool like all the old ones, and looking on amazon the very first comment , said it does

I've got a set of fx9s and a set of 6000 baitrunners.
All of them suffer with line getting behind the spool.
I've come to the conclusion that it's just something you've got to accept on the cheaper reels. Not like it happens on every cast
