Decided this year to lose any form of leader and just fish with a lead clip, 20lb Fluor straight through, however would like 2/3 blobs of putty a couple of foot behind the lead just to help it stay down. Always used Kryston but didn't seem that good last time I tried it. Any recommendations for the heaviest putty tht stays on well?

Nash for me aswell,bit pricey for what it is though..what I do when fishing naked
is tie a sliding stop knot up the line a bit with a swan shot pinched onto one of the tag ends. or a mate of mine puts 2 or 3 lengths of 2 inch tungsten tubing on the line that slide up the line at different intervals when casting out..

Why dont you put some small korda line sinkers on the line and that will give you something to mould the putty on. I find the dark matter putty pretty good

Only purchase I had from them Gerry were I wasn't impressed. Was rock hard and couldn't get a decent piece off to use.
Luckily I still had some original Heavy Metal in the box so have been using that when needed.
Have got some of the ESP stuff and that seems perfectly fine.

I used to love heavy metal, but heard it went downhill. Got some Korda dark matter and was not impressed. I use a fluro leader with pieces up the length. Each time I reeled in and not even dragging through weed ect, most if not all had slipped to the bottom or come off. I got some from I think ‘affordable angling' was about £3-4, yesh it's a bugger to break off and initially start, but it sticks and stays on, is heavy and cheap so can't grumble (prob very similar to other cheaper brands)

But wasn't the original Heavy Metal hard and you softened it up by sitting it on the kettle or similar? Yes the Dark Matter is terrible stuff. The HM used to be the best because of the amount of tungsten they used to put in it, even had their own machine to make it, I remember recently reading an article in an old Carpworld all about it so don't know what happened to that?

Yes it is/was but the Bank Tackle stuff IMO was on another level.

Some of the really cheap stuff goes molten if it gets hot, can't remember the brands off hand, but the ones plastered all over the Facebook groups with their one field tester claiming it to be the dogs while holding up an 8lb carp.

Bought the nash putty last year. During the hot summer, it has molten. My rigbox was a complete sticky mess due to the molten putty

ah right, luckily I still have some of the Kryston putty from when they first went over to the new packaging a few years ago and it seems ok to me

The Deception stuff I got was awful. It was like Plasticine. Super sticky but has absolutely no weight to it whatsoever.
That said, the first lot I got which was some years ago now was decent so who knows.

, that's the stuff I used to have, now have this one and have found it just as good, maybe just the packaging is slightly different but still says 'Made In The UK' on it and is probably the original stuff, remember buying it quick when there was news about 'all change' at Kryston

Not sure about the best but am down to my last 5 mm blob of Kryston old version heavy metal but did invest in their Drop Em putty for when it's gone, it's darker and stiffer than the old heavy metal and does leave a bit of residue on the fingers, I only use putty for a tiny bit on the hook link and some mouse dropping size bits above the lead at around 2 foot intervals.

When I herd that Kryston were going under a few years back I bought 5 packs of the stuff.
I then ordered some of more and got the new version in a tin but it was identical to what the old stuff was.
Still have a load in the shed, best stuff I ever used and the video that did the rounds on youtube about how to use it properly was great

Drop em isnt meant for bobbing on, your supposed to just rub your hooklink through it to sink that, not weigh down popups, hence it's so sticky

That's if your using braid, with mono you use little mouse droppings of it, on their website, I don't use it for weighting pop-ups.

I am assuming that not all these small companies have their own machinery to make putty like Kryston do/did, so a lot of these have to be the same product in different packaging, be interesting to know which ones, probably most of them

I take my last post back...after recieving some more deception putty in the post I set to making some rigs and 'tank testing' some rogs to see how long wafters/pop ups would work for. After taking the rigs out I found the putty had gone to mush and had litrally fallen off the rig.
I am now reading this thread to decide on my new putty choice.

I recently bought the Nash and Kryston and they turned up this week and it's gotta be Kryston I don't think it's changed.
The Nash is no better than the Gardner one which is just a sticky mess at the bottom of a tin, I mixed the Gardner one with a cheap harder one of the bay and that's reasonable.
Mixed the Nash with the Kryston that's ok
Ordered two more Kryston.

I'm using the nash putty and it's ok but nothing special. Nash did a liquid tungsten, that I really liked but the bottle went off very quick so not really cost effective
