Thought I'd give baitworks a try so ordered a kilo of Atlantic heat and some scent from hell barrel pop ups, how fecking strong is scent from hell!! You could smell it through the box and cant get the smell off my fingers jeez it better catch fish 🤣

Hmmmmmmm. I found it too strong. I've used them everywhere, on some stupidly easy day tickets and hard waters, I'm nearly through the whole pot. Never had so much as a single pick up on one. I know as humans we all like a stinky bait, but I'm unsure if these have actually gone too far or if it's just a coincidence that my results on them have been so poor. By contrast I make my own pop ups which have a much more subtle flavour and on the days that I blanked with the hells I was catching on my own.

Same for me used them a number of times and never caught despite other baits doing fish. I think in certain situations it can probably repel fish rather than attract.
I've just received a pot. Absolutely stunk the house out when i opening them. Going to give them a go over the coming months against Mainline Salty Squid & Pineapple popups
Just for balance, I've always found these a good bait on my water. Plus side is the barrels balance an 18mm boilie well for a snowman or you can core out an 18mm and pop one in for a balance bottom bait. Also, you get used to the smell
It's when you get used to the smell you are in trouble, as you and your vehicle stink to everyone else but you!
I caught well on the white hells on a very silty lake.

Had a couple of pots, couldn't buy a bite on them. They really don't smell that bad/strongly.

Good god mine do. When the pot arrived I stuck it under my wife's nose and told her to take a big old sniff. She ran to the back door and started heaving. Even though I've never caught in them. That alone was worth the purchase price.

I'm nearly through a full pot, and I haven't had a single bite in them, If I wasn't such a tight ass I'd throw them away
They smell of really bad Man made chemicals to me.
Saw a bloke catch a fish on one in pea green algea, really bad conditions, they work, he then tied one on a size 5 chod and it leaned over.... The buoyancy would be my issue..

I've done very well on these over the past 12 months, through the Autumn and Winter too!
In fact I only have these and the pineapple version in my bucket at the moment.

Just drill the pop up and add cork to suit buoyancy ?

They have caught me more fish than any other pop-up. I have even watched carp single out a fragment of a SfH that I had banded to a size 10 hook and float fished over pellet in the margin. This was after watching them ignore bottom baits and pellets for an hour.

They work , to the point they were on all rods on most days . Just used the orange as it's a forgotten colour , but the whites are the one 😉. For a change used their pinapphell , lovely bait , confident in all of them .

Is "SFH" a specific flavour/blend or blend of hydros, that gives the bait it´s putrid odour ? What does it smell like ?

Smells like a two people in a mortuary having a fight with n-buytric acid. It's a very man made chemically smell.
About as subtle as a pan-galactic gargle blaster.

According to the other thread chemical flavours don't attract carp. Go figure.

It's basically a very very strong Crab smell from why I can make out.
Defo not subtle, but that's not what I'm after in a pop-up.

The matching booster liquid is seriously pungent stuff. Don't get it on your fingers or open it inside - it will linger for days. It smells very similar to the krebsdyr-flavour(crayfish/shellfish) that the danish bait firm Danish Delight put out in the late 90´s. I may be wrong, but to my mind there seems to be a some fruity blackcurrant´ishly notes in the scent from hell booster liquid.

Smells too synthetic to me.....
In reply to Post #24
Never smelt these particular baits but don't knock synthetic smells some of the flavours that have been most successful in my own baits have a definite synthetic chemical smell.
If I could point to anything about the difference of some currently available flavours and their original versions it would be that they have lost their chemical edge

Or certain constituents are no longer included. Diacetyl for instance, most flavour producers make statements saying there products are free from it...they are now selling to the vaping industry and diacetyl is a no go for them.

Yes, I assume very few bother to make blends just for fishing, so that might well be so.

Some flavours still have Diacetyl in though. For example, Capella do a Version 1 with Diacetyl and a Version 2 that is Diacetyl free.

Interesting, do you know if they sell to any of the bait manufacturers, or indeed any kind of retail outlets

Christian, have a google around - should be widely available. As I understand they were predominantly a food flavour supplier but must have had huge growth with the boom in vaping, hence the formulation and supply of diacetyl free flavours.

Have anyone tried the scent from heaven pop ups?
I just can't get on with the scent from hell, I've caught fish with them but the smell stays everywhere for ages 🤮

I've used Scent From Hell Pop-Ups for years now and More Recently the Pineap-hell and Sea Monster. I personally have found these to pick out the bigger carp. This may well be coincidence, but my Three Biggest U.K Fish have fallen to either Scent From Hell or Pineap-hell.
I also have absolutely no issue with boosting these on a regular basis too. Once every six weeks, taking to them with a liberal coating of matching booster and allowing it to soak in
In my opinion Baitworks produce some of the best products on the market and I will always use a variation of their pop-ups on one of my rods

I fish a very silty club lake and I have done extremely well on the scent from hells, I figure that they can pick up the scent better through the silt especially in the winter, pretty much all I use through the winter months.

It's one of them baits that you'll know if it works very quickly in your lake.
I've had some of my best fish on singles in lake and not a touch on another. It worked really well on the St Laurence as well.
It's also nearly got me kicked out of the digs and we could also smell it in the plane cabin. The white ones seem the strongest

I took my fishing gear into work one Friday , showed one of the labourers my sent from hell pop ups and the boost bottle, which he nicked off me , and put it in the electricians van , who went off the head at the smell in his new transit van and a fight broke out. . Great bait in my opinion also was great entertainment that day .

Brilliant!
Having listened to the Thinking Tackle #22 episode that features the owner of Baitworks, and reading through this thread, I've purchased a tub of SfH and matching booster to try at a few lakes around me in the York/Leeds regions. Mark appears to really know how stuff and for that I'm willing to give them a go.
Someone asked about whether they sell to retail. Mark has produced a short video on the website explaining why they only sell direct to customers. Makes sense. Including delivery, it could be the best £15 spent on a hook bait given what has already been reported below. Or the worst
We'll see in the coming months.

Monster crab and a couple of acids I'm lead to believe.
Not so long back I had a couple vial's of the boosters to add to the popup. Later I found out that the reason their brown in colour was because they are cut with soya sauce.
The clear liquid is the one to go with.
One thing I have found this year, catfish do not like it on the one lake I fish.

Not looking forward to touching these
Might have to consider a smell proof bag or container.

I've kept my bottle of hell booster. Even though I never had a single run on either the hell or the heaven. I've kept it simply to squirt through the letterbox of the next customer who bounces me for payment.

I used this for the first time yesterday - I've never smelt a bait remotely like it. I like Baitworks and what Mark Bryant does, so thought of giving them a go. When I opened them the smell was so intense, and in my limited knowledge I pretty much assumed it would be too much to a fish, and maybe more of a cold water bait. And like some of the replies in the thread, it felt quite chemical in smell.
There weren't many bites recently on the lake I am fishing, and I had nothing for two days and a night, then moved swim and within 20 minutes had a lovely fish out.
Yes it might well have been the change of swim - I'll never really know.
However, the fish in the lake are very wiley they worked.
It was interesting reading a fair few of the comments below this morning, as there seems a very divided opinion on this bait - fair enough.
It has done a positive thing for my confidence and I will continue to explore this bait.

Hi - I have used the scent from hell pop ups since they came out.. Use with total confidence mate. The most effective popups I have used. They did go through a spell where the buoyancy wasn't great but now absolutely fine. And yes they absolutely reek and best not kept in the house. I keep mine in a sealed glass jar which seems to be the best way

I honestly wish that they were less effective
I've probably tried most of the better smelling, more expensive hookbaits available and *for me* the Scent From Hells have always consistently out-fished anything else used side by side.
I used to plug them with cork, but they have improved the recipe and no need anymore.
They stink though, and it's a smell that normal people will not tolerate in the car!

Glass jar - I hope that works as my mrs just complained about the smell of the car and there has been nothing in it since yesterday!
I used it as a single, no feed. Any tips on feed with this if I want to put free offerings in at some point? There is no SFH fresh boilie's - there is Royal Marine which has SFH at a low level.
And I am not bothered about the booster bottles, they smell enough already!

SFH dont smell half as bad as they did years ago they used to smell like a pot of puke that had been cooking in the sun for a few days I never done very well on them Sea Monster was the one for me caught plenty on them.
SFH reminds me of an old flavour from the mid 90's that I think Richworth or Hutchinson made - Danish Blue...
It was so strong and chemical, with that rancid cheese smell. Chub loved it.
