Daddy was my second thirty @ 33.00lb in 1989.
In June 1984 I caught twenties from three different Cornish waters in a day, College, Salamander and a little known Club venue. I was trying to set what I now see as self-congratulatory and insignificant targets but at the time I was pretty chuffed with myself. The so-called Numbers Game was wholly addictive back then!

Duck pond is about right these times,full of water fowl and silting badly,....I seen the fish in its heyday,as I used to get a lift from the nearby old St Austell college to stare at these sub's..
To put Kens achievement in perspective, apart from the waters he talks of I can't think of many at that time that actually had many 20s in them...maybe Dutson,Tredidon....but I grew up on Tredidon Manor pool,never seen legit double,til we started the new lake,where it did indeed, do two genuine twenties,now long dead,by lutra lutra..
Lower Tamar,may have had a couple in,genuine 20s,and Bude canal possibly as well,Alder may have had a couple,but really that's in west Devon, so doesn't count...Wheal Grey ,long before Gerry Savage,and Chris Bannister went there....so,like I say brilliant result at that time..
That's why,all the original band of Cornish Carpers respect what Ken did,all that time ago,a lot of blow ins today don't even want to know about the history down here,and to me that's sad..
My place had several 20s,all the originals all dead,most on a kill platform down stream,literally,....and a couple of other old skool places,that I would never mention out of respect to the original band of Cornish Carpers..

I loved the Salamander articles that Ken wrote in the 90s. Really well written, evocative pieces. It was clear that he loved the lake and its' fish. Classic stuff.

Loved reading Ken's stuff in the mags. Total respect for the guys who handed out tips at a time when the secret squirrels ruled the waves. I used to like Tim paisleys work and bill cottams ramblings. Nice carp Ken

Just imagine for a second what it was like,down here,it was special,not many anglers,not many lakes,those who did carp fish knew each other, I managed to get in a place ,probs the best lake in Cornwall,they all remembered me from when I
was young,....uplifting stuff..
It was brilliant,....one day in my village, in the papershop ,now long gone,like all the local shops,was carpworld,inside,an article,and pictures...by Ken,all about Cornish carping,wow.living in the back of beyond those times,it was just amazing...
Back then,the divide tween Kernow and up country was real,not imagined,...that's why, I'm only interested in Cornish carping its history and developments over the years,the great lake building period,the potential and the great otter disaster,which set us backyears and years..
To me,there is so much more to fishing than just size,I can't explain it,its atmosphere,the silence,solitude,friendships and the learning processes....we had all this..
To me Ken,IS,the godfather of Cornish carping and he's been a real good friend as well

I haven't been down for a few years now, does Salamander still have any carp left?
There used to be a nice little crowd of locals I used to talk to and give them all my leftover bait and bits and bobs when I headed for home. Nice little lake, my friends that I was staying with referred to it as 'the duck pond'.
