Bit of an odd question, but what do people find best to wear for sleeping in? I'm a bivvy open / no front type and have just tended to always get in the bag fully clothed (but not always warm tbh). I'm aware that being fully clothed doesn't let the bag do it's work, so probably not the best solution.

So what do you find best? What do you do if you get a take in the night? What if it's raining?

I've thought about just going for some base layers but can't imagine it would be great playing a fish in the rain or cold...

I wear base layer in the bag and grab a coat with a hood if it's raining when I get a take. You can stand being cold for a while but when you get wet it's a whole lot worse.

In the summer I find my nice camo mankini perfect and fishing a public lake it seems to keep people away too

Thanks - I suppose getting a soaking is never good whatever you're wearing! At least with the base layers it's less bulky gear to strip off.

Jeez - Andy Pandy hasn't aged well...

I can't sleep with socks or trousers on, in fact, wearing shreddies is a push. I well recall my early bivvy days and 'losing' my trousers and the door zip. I ended up playing a fish in just a T shirt and felt a right berk. That I lost the fish didn't help.

I now wear base layers which make me look like the Michelin Man but are comfy and less embarrassing when bursting through the door.

T.shirt jumper and shorts for me. I find I can get in my waders much quicker without trousers on if I get a take in the night.

Lol - were you planning on putting your trousers on and unzipping the door in the heat of the moment?

One can only hope this was in the dead of night at a secluded venue...

Shorts aren't a bad shout, I suppose if you can throw a jacket on there's less to get wet if raining

I try to wear the least amount as poss as so not to sweat. If I do get a bite whilst in the bag, a coat and waters are quickly put on.

Buy one of those Fox Chunk Comfort Mid Layer Sets. They look like children's pyama's but they're perfect. And if it rains that's just bad luck.

Trakker 2 piece undersuit when the weather is like this. Shorts and T shirt, or shorts only in summer, if you're not very warm in the bag, extra clothes aren't the best solution. Add a thermal cover, even a second one if you've already got one. Still much cheaper than a new bag.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions, looks like some form of base layer / thermals are the preferred option (apart from the camo mankini )

Another, T-Shirt and shorts, if it's really cold, jogging bottoms and a long sleeved T-Shirt!

Warmer months pair of shorts and t shirt under a portwest sealtex waterproof suit in case it hammering down should I get a run.

Winter, Nash onesie under said above.

Sleeping bag loose fitting around me too.

Shorts and t shirt when the weather permits and like others have said a base layer in the colder months (I use the fortis version) and leave wither a snugpak SJ9 / waterproofs (OR BOTH) at the ready

Normally got joggers hoody hats the lot on when I'm out never seem to get decent enough weather for anything less 😂 could do with a new set of decent base layers rather than a pit of old homey long john and a John smiths t shirt lol

In summer I often just lie on top of the sleeping bag in combat trousers and t-shirt. If I'm wearing shorts I might climb inside.

In winter I sleep inside the bag with my combats and t-shirt on, and get up pulling a fleece or hoody on.

In winter Navitas onesie, lovely and warm 👍
