Hi everyone, just wondered what everyones opinion was on the best pellets to use in a spod mix? Thinking of buying in bulk [25kg] this year. There seems to be so many types out there im not sure what to use.
Thanks.

My local animal feed store sourced me 25kg of halibut pellets for about £35, from skretting last summer. Good quality

I've tried loads and imo you can't beat your bog standard trouties or hali's.
Skretting Elite Trout Pellets are what I use, 25kg about 36 quid delivered from Titmuss (Fishing Bait World). These have caught me loads of carp over the past few years, they absolutely LOVE them.

I don't think you will be getting Skrettings anymore in the UK from what I was told by a Fish Farmer last week - the company that bought Skretting out has now pulled out of the UK market completely.

I ended up buying 100kg of Coppens Intensive Feed Pellet for my stock fish.

Seems to be a trend in fishing Keith, find something you like then it becomes unavailable

It was my understanding they were stopping producing in the UK due to a new factory build from a competitor, but still supplying. Are you saying they'll no longer be supplying into the UK Keith?

Gutted, they are a staple for me. One of those things you just do not want to change.

It's all good fellas, they'll still be supplying from France. It's just UK production that's stopped:

Well that is weird, it was posted on 30 Jan 2020 but refers to news from April 19. I think they've taken info from the previous article (below from Nov 18) and failed to edit it sufficiently.

I was watching this thread wondering about the thinking on size, any preferences about large or small?

Depends on the application mate. I use bigguns (8mm) for feed. For bags small'n's would be better.

I normally use 6 or 8 mm halibut, especially in the summer but recently tried a few of the larger (12 mm ish ) swim stim sweet pinging pellets for loose and hook bait. Coincidence perhaps but my best 4 hour session on the bottom for quite a while.

You can still get Skretting from the wholesaler.

Price of Coppens has dropped a little from last year too.

When the water temperature goes up then as said Trout & Halibut pellets which are extruded, this time of year then a compressed Trout pellet would be better IMO.

I'm confused. Are skrettings and halibut pellets the same thing?. I've seen places that do both

Skrettings are a pellet manufacturer. Halibut pellets are a type of pellet made by various manufacturers for the growth and feeding of halibut.
As in, pellet manufacturers make trout pellets for feeding trout, salmon pellets for feeding salmon, carp/koi and coarse pellets for carp and coarse fish

So everywhere that sells pellets labelled “skrettings pellets” are selling the exact same pellets? What are they made out of?

I always thought halibut pellets were made from halibut because I've never heard of anyone who owns a stock of halibut as I believe they're a sea fish?

Skrettings is just a brand. They make pellets to feed farmed fish. Anglers realised that they can use them to catch coarse fish, but for trout, salmon, halibut pellet etc this is not the primary use.

Trout pellet are used to feed farmed trout, halibut pellet to feed farmed halibut.

Carp pellet were made to feed carp.
