What a stupid idea. Just buy a pasty.
The filling looks like dog sick 🤮
I've yet to see a ridgemonkey video with anything looking appealing.
The worse one was someone going a Thai curry.

The tinned currys ain't to sad, if I'm only doing an overnighter I always take a tin of curry, tin of bombay spuds and a packet of microwave pilau rice. Chuck it all in a pot and warm it through

I think some of you are being a bit harsh on Gerry. As stated these fillings are probably the same as near as dammit that you get in your supermarket or a dirty Gregg's pasty. You also have the option of using the better M&S fillings or even using home made ones. The choice is there.
Whilst I agree that it's good to take pre cooked home made food from the freezer it is also nice to have something different now and again. I like to have good, freshly prepared stuff when fishing, especially in winter. A rib eye steak, oven chips in the RM or mash with veg and a glass of red stuff goes down well. The thought of a nice pie with a favourite filling sounds worth trying to me.
.
Also in winter you have plenty of time on your hands to cook food and it's part of my routine once dark after 4 o'clock. In summer it's nice to sit out and leisurely cook something and enjoy the scenery. I do 3 or 4 nights at a time so varied food is something I'm always on the lookout for. I enjoy cooking a good meal as much as the finished result. As stated although the toaster is not a new invention by any means, the ones marketed by RM have taken the market by storm and have opened up a lot of new possibilities for cooking in lightweight small utensils, with some people only taking these and nothing else for a session.
If you don't like the El Cheapo fillings use your imagination, don't shoot the messenger.

I'll do anything from a bacon sarny to a full roast but don't do pot noodle, summer time a simple prawn salad with plenty of olives and peppers.
Obviously not many cooks on here or your cadac would have been snapped up,

Old geezer, you may not be aware that you can get different qualities of pasties. They are not all like the cheap and nasty ones you clearly buy from your local corner shop 😜 hopefully we will meet on the bank and I'll invite you over for dinner and a glass of the good stuff.
I own a ridgemonkey as they are a neat design and nice and compact.
I can't say it's changed the way I cook on the bank.
I'm quite a good cook (if I say so myself) and can knock up a decent meal on the bank
Some of the ridgemonkey recipes are a gimmick and done to see what you can get away with cooking in one of them.
Chips are the perfect example. Any chip cooked in a ridgemonkey is going to be a bad chip so why bother doing them unless your not arsed about eating bad chips.
Only once have I cooked chips on the bank and that was a social with a Chef friend and we took a proper pan and oil and deep fried them.
Each to their own but it's not for me.

tinned food is pressure cooked at very high temps,it won't kill you but won't have any nutritional value so a for a few days fishing won't harm..

yes I have made pies at home using Marks .and Spencer Chunky Steak - Syn Free too ! according to Slimming world but its around £3.50 a tin so in this instance you DO get what you pay for
in the car I have ALWAYS got tins of spuds ,tins of curry, steak and chicken + packet of pasta , lots of water etc
these are mainly A if I feel lazy .......or B being retired if I decide to fish a couple more days than I had planned I can
YES I take frozen meals that I have batched cooked and I also take fresh food to cook on the bank too
a nice hot chill con Carney is a favourite using 5% fat steak mince but have this with spuds rather than rice
I have probably spent more time on the bank than any of you food experts ((from 1962 ))
and have used tin foods for most of that time with no issues
I can cook a full roast dinner very easily on my Cobb cooker if I feel like it too
oh yea and I will definitely be cooking one of those pies in my stove top toaster but I will brush the pastry with egg prior to cooking

I'm luckily enough to have a diet dictated by taste rather than slimming world.
Of course they're real potatoes, as I said nutritionally they're fine and as a means to bulk out a meal on the cheap serve a purpose.
You wouldn't want them to arrive on your plate in a restaurant next to a nice piece of meat or fish would you? and if you like fresh or organic produce they wouldn't be the first choice of carbohydrate.
We eat rice and lentils much more than potato, I do the cooking and don't want to have to carry any fat ****s in case of an emergency so adjust their diets accordingly, I suppose in our house I AM slimming world

The thing is at home
I tend to buy mostly organic stuff and always eat at least 5 bits of fruit a day and I simply love vegetables that I eat tons of and lots of fish I go once a month to billingsgate to stock up with fish and a few kgs of Shrimp only milk I use is Arla BOB fat-free skimmed milk
I probably eat more healthy than most since developing a few health issues in my old age I have lost 2,5 stone and go to the gym 1 to 2 times a week
and when I go fishing its all about convenience and a couple of days of eating a tin or 2 of beef and spuds or curry will do me no harm what so ever I will use low fat pastry sheets when I do me pie and will certainly taste a lot better than pot bloody noodles
Im in my mid 70s still fishing 48 to 72 hour sessions driving 300 mile round trips to fish so eating tinned food a few times a month hasnt done me any harm

I think if you made a canned meal and fresh meal with exactly the same ingredients you would get a very similar nutritional profile.

Re-thought and yup its still correct.
Canning process doesn't cause BPA & it is in a lot more food contact containers than just cans. And in the doses you could get from consumption, it is not seen to be a risk.
Any what does any of that have to do with the nutritional profile?

Bpa is in canned food still, that's according to many sites I've looked at this afternoon while bored. You have given zero facts
The BPA doesn't come from the process of retorting - its a constituent of a lining that is applied to a large amount of food packaging containers. The amounts come through as trace when tested and there is no proof yet to say that the trace amounts are harmful to when consumed.
You say canning is unhealthy and again give zero facts.... yet I don't see baked beans being slated as a unhealthy option across the world, or how about microwave rice, or maybe tins of tuna.
You are entitled to your opinion but don't go asking others to change theirs when you have no knowledge of the subject

It's irrelevant where it comes from, it's there. That thing linked to heart disease, cancer and more. The facts are inconclusive regarding the dangers, so better safe than sorry imo. It certainly wouldn't be the first time something has been used for years then found to be deadly, would it?!
I was told that tinned/processed foods were bad by a nutritionalist I was sent to see early last year when my liver wasnt functioning properly. I've all but cut that crap out and guess what, my liver is now back to perfect, and I feel a lot better for it. Those are all the facts I need. No bloke on an Internet forum will convince me otherwise, especially one who calls me a troll for doing a little research.
On a trip to morroco I was told by a fellow food lover (Bivviwrecker) that if your a bit picky with what you eat you Shouid take some supplies or you will starve all week... well I took a few food items to see me through and these goblin pies which I came across whilst shopping came to the rescue...never saw to grown men try to bribe and offer almost anything for a pie 😂. Let's say I'm glad I took the big lads advice as the tagines that we were given daily were not to my acquired taste🤢
