Thanks for that Vossy - I stand corrected on the Copper front.

Pretty sure the popularity was related to the low cost though.

Ken corrected himself, see here

Sheep nuts dissolve so quickly I'd be surprised if most added minerals weren't diluted away before the carp get to them.

Edit, check this thread re copper too, smurfs post

Didn't Ewe Nuts have an issue with excess amounts of some Copper compound in them ?

I seem to remember Ken Townley posting about it.

I thought they were popular because they were cheap - 6 quid a 20 Kilo sack ...

Perhaps if used in excess (like a lot of baits). They used to be quite popular, maybe still are, plenty of references still about on the net about use on a quick check.

Might not be as the user is US based from what I can see. More 'beef country' than lamb

If they were Ewe nuts though...
"Ewe nuts are formulated for sheep and can have a mineral balance unsuitable for fish, potentially leading to dangerous health problems for carp"

I used to have some red liquid fish based from Cotswold bait creations
You could actually see it creeping out of the pva bag of pre soaked and spreading on the bottom.

Looked great

If you use a heavy powder like DNA Crayfish Heavy Groundbait it'll stay on the bottom within reason too, if that's what you want.

I would agree with this. Definitely possible to get liquids into a pellet and if you prep them correctly a crust that will get down to the bottom of an average lake, certainly if you are fishing in the edge which is where pellets come into their own.

No, use a thick hydro liquid and let it soak in slightly, cover with powder and shake it all up. Leave it for a while to dry on like a crust. It’ll stay on for a while with a plume of attraction coming off in the water column.

Pretty pointless, it will all wash off before it hits the bottom anyway

I have some bland 18-20 mm pellets that I am looking to increase the attraction of by coating in a liquid and then with a combination of powders. The pellets are plant based with some CSL to bind. I have the liquid sorted but looking for some powders to up the attraction for the day sessions I'm doing.
