I hope so, would side scanning be a step too far as well? About time portable sonars caught up with in boat sonars, I've banged on for ages about not being restricted to having to have 2, 1 in boat and one out.

Maybe going to have some sort of live view like the lowrance active target or Garmin live scope.
Not sure if they could get the technology to do that yet.

Chirp+4. In a nutshell it seems to be AI, vegetation mapping , bottom hardness, camo paint job. They already use algorithms for the other Deeper products, to me the AI spin is just improving those really.

The link below is active and I have to say I'm not particularly impressed with it.
It doesn't get going until 4.45, 5.45 is a bit more interesting, but in the whole 11 odd minutes only 1 picture of terrain mapping. I expected to see vegetation images and a side by side of the improvements v the older Chirp.

Makes sense to improve the tech for integrated baitboat use . . .but not sure about castable sonars. The biggest prob with these is the range and consistency of connection . . .that's what they need to work on IMO!

What's the thoughts on the new Downscan add on for the bait boat itself ?

These deeper sonars use an MCU which are perfect for Tiny Machine Learning (TinyML) applications, where AI inference happens on-device
Their are lots of advancements in the MCU market for AI/ML applications at the moment from US / European semiconductor manufacturers like TI, NXP, ST, Renesas, Microchip etc etc

The computing power is limited but I can see the benefits in its ability to process data much quicker on the device.
So will bring benefits in terms of speed of mapping, fish identification etc
I would say better suited for sports fishing market where you are casting or trolling it from a small boat

For a baitboat the down scanning/ imaging probably more of a benefit there.

Does anyone know if the "AI"/algorithm improvements will also be coming to the deeper quest?

I think they said part of the AI improvements would also be fish detection.
I'd be interested to see if there's a reduction in false returns off weeds

For the boat I don't think so short term perhaps some app improvements using AI and not necessarily the hardware.

Let's think what does the boat bring today

GPS mapping + autopilot routes
CHIRP sonar with multiple beam frequencies
App-based mapping via Fish Deeper
Return-to-home + waypoint navigation

Downscanning is coming soon which will be a big enhancement

What could AI in the future bring
Autonomous mapping.
AI assisted best places based on mapping to drop your rigs - I'm sure it will come albeit a controversial step perhaps.
There is a lot that AI could potentially bring but it's early days so I think sometime off.
