Usually best to back lines with a line of the same diameter to keep things simple . . .however you can ascertain different combos to back/fill spools efficiently with a bit of basic maths!

You should be able to work on those spools by knowing the total capacity (in M) by line diameter (in mm) ?

The stated capacity of the spool (by the manufacturer) is miles off though, hence this measurement tool. The downside with this is that I will only know how much line I need once I have emptied a spool and measured its dimensions.

I use cheap backing and reverse off what i dont need on distance sticks. I bin this and then add the good stuff without wasting too much good line where it does not see the light of day!
Also count the handle turns so I can add line without the faff of reversing off line etc.

Agree on counting the handle turns. I do 20 turns and measure the length to get a good average. Helps getting excactly 1/3 or 1/2 of a big spool split equally between reels. The app sounds helpful in knowing how much backing to add, I'll be taking a look, cheers

I have been doing it this way forever. It is a pain but does seem to work for me. ....
I load one spool with cheapest line (doesnt matter what thickness) and as i load i take the following dimenstions
Empty spool handle revolution.
Mid fill spool handle revolution.
Full spool revolution revolution.
I then strip off this line
I use the average measurement of empty and mid spool, to get an idea of how many handle turns i need for the backing. For my carp reels I aim to leave enough space for approx 250mtr of 12lb/0.33mm mainline. (I have never found the the reel spool capacity info to be far out)
I then fill to the top with my mainline of choice, counting turns to confirm I have approx 250mtr loaded (using the average of mid spool / full spool revolution measurement).
Thankfully, working out how much backing needed, is a job I only need to do once on one reel when i first get them
