Does anyone know if Greys has stopped having an interest in Carp fishing, no new products, not seen any advertising for a while all seems like the carp fishing side of the business is being wound down.

It's part of the pure group so maybe they think they have enough through the other sections of the group.

The carp rods are still listed on their website though

Did Greys also make the Chub Outkast carp rods, I think they were part of the same group.

I was told that the Chubs were made in the same factory as Grey's.

I had a pair when they first came out.

They were good rods, I wish I hadn't sold them.

I have been using these for banging out solid bags, decent enough, and a great action with a lump on the other end. 12ft 3.5lb outkast+ with some minor custom fettling.



I had to remove that damn awful line clip, dug into my finger when wrapping up, and added some anti frap tip rings.

As mentioned earlier, the brand was sold to Pure Fishing (Penn, Berkley, Hardy's, etc)

Basically, I think the only greys rods available are what you can find still gathering dust on tackle shop shelves. I haven't seen any new new ones for a while.

I've got two sets of MK2 Aiircurves and they are awesome for factory built rods.

Might not just be Carp rods if so. Around 2 years ago a lot of shops had the lure rods on clearance and I've not seen any new ones yet. They were still quite active re fly rods but I'm guessing if there's no mass new product launch you might be right.

. . . lol 'Greys of Alnwick' was a premium brand back in t' day . . . then House of Hard-on bought them in '99 and it went downhill from there . . .

*Nerd alert - still have a pair of Power Plays that are in use to this day . . . luverly rods

I had the outcasts when they first came out, actually preferred them to my 3.25 torrix, great rods, and still using my surviving one for piking.

Thanks chaps, just had a look on the pure fishing site and their only carp fishing specialist brand is now JRC, it still mentions Greys but mentions it as a fly fishing brand.

To me they didn't understand the brands or they aren't bothered, JRC made decent bed chairs back in the day but not high end carp rods.

It's a real shame the greys brand will probably vanish from the carp scene.

I love my greys barbel and surface rods, and a mate has the apex 50 carp rods and they're very nice indeed so if they've stopped making them that's a shame.
I think JRC used to make some good gear tbh but I wouldn't buy anything they made now just looks cheap and nasty.
Obviously Penn reels are well liked and reliable.
