From what I've been reminded of here recently and over the years in books, milk proteins are loved by carp and work all year round, so why doesn't there appear to be a ready rolled option out there or is there one rolled to order that anyone knows of?

I appreciate it may be pricey and may put people off, but I'd really love to try something with no (tiger/peanut/cashew/etc) nut in the mix, no fishmeal, no liver, etc, just the right mix of milk proteins, a sweet flavouring and whatever is needed to bind it all together.

Does anything decent exist or would it only be a thing if I rolled it myself?

I think the lack of a ready rolled bait is because of the high cost snd shelf life of milks, meaning a good turnover is required. Also it would be hard to roll through the machines used nowadays. Optibaits do a mix, but you'll have to roll it yourself.

I think Rollin baits do some form of a milk protein bait, not cheap though if I remember.

Baitworks have recently released a milk/marine protein based boillie called Pro Flow aimed at the Barbel anglers market.

Thanks, yes I saw both of them, was going to get InTouch with both re fishmeal content.

Curious, do barbell anglers prefer milks because they don't put anywhere near as much in so doesn't work out as expensive?

Tbh, my time on the bank these days is moocho limited and I'm trying to get one out of a difficult lake (for me) so if milks gives me an edge paying extra would be well worth it 🙂. I'm pretty certain a lot of fishmeal goes in so could be something a bit different.

I think the creamino has a few milks in the base so you could ask when you call about the barbel bait.

I considered RG Baits Vitalac last year, at the same time I considered Creamino but iirc they are a softer bait, which I didn't want. Vitalac seems well thought of, readily available in shops too.

I think apart from the Monster Red all of the other Baitworks boilies have a milk protein element but when I listened to a Podcast where they discussed the Pro Flow and the inclusion of milk proteins in this one they mentioned it was in higher quantities and more refined milks that they have used.

Thanks,

Baitworks have recommended Creamino out of the two, so I've ordered a 1kg trial pack to give a go. Never used their baits before but figured I have to start with something.

I'll probably pick up a kg of one or two others to try before I settle on one and go 'all in' lol.

Quite surprising after looking into this how little the choice is without loads of other bits being included in the base mix - guess that's how they keep the price realistic.

I've used the Creamino when it first was launched caught from the off with it I'd say its a little but not much firmer than the AH,RM,MR boilies, I've used them all and apart from RM done well on the rest.

Pure Milk protein baits that's a blast from the past. When I started out carpfishing in the mid to late 80s pure milks in your bait was the in thing.your Casiens, Rennet casien, Sodium , calcium casienate and Lactalbumin. Your binder normally Soya flour and a vitamin and mineral content some time in the form of Liver both powdered and liquid Some soluble some not so soluble. Usually with a low level flavour and essential oil combo. All these things designed to work for you in diffrent ways.. they were expensive back then. Hate to think what a rolled milk bait would cost you now. Upwards of £20 kg I'd say. Think that probably answers your question.

You can see why these type of baits were dropped for cheaper birdfood and fishmeal recipes. And in a lot of cases were a lot more effective.

You have only got to look at the likes of Darenth back in the day. Where people were bringing down there six egg milk baits frozen in flask for a couple of days fishing. Were eventually getting out fished by people using up 48 eggs worth of fishmeal bait in the same time period. You can see why they went out of vogue.

I hear ya.

It just seems to me that the bait market is saturated with pretty much the same mix/taste profiles from probably only a few wholesalers. Like with everything some will use a better grade than others and some will be a la carte, but mostly it's just same/same.

So trying to find something a bit different might get me one or two more bites or it might not. But it's good fun trying 👍

Rollin Baits do a milk protein bait - think its the Optimum. Dave Moore who came up with it knows his stuff. Had a great chat with him at a charity fish in a couple of years back about it.

I totally agree, said the same thing 2 years running to Jason at DNA
That's the reason I was looking @ creamino & vitalac though ended up going with a nut base as old habits die hard...doh!
