OK I buy a few maggots from the tackle shop and split them up.
I want some live ones for tipping off hook baits and the rest I want dead to put into small mesh bags to nick onto the hook. ....... (dont want them wriggling down into the silt and out of sight)
So how do I go about killing these maggots and making sure they are dry enough to go into the mesh bag without melting it?

Put them in a sealed bag in the freezer for 2 days.

Takes weeks as they come back to life again once air gets put back into the bag

The 2 methods I've used in the past are sticking them in the freezer or pour boiling water on them. They need to be dried obviously for your PVA.

They don't really burrow into silt. Just pretty much sit there ready to be eaten. I wouldn't kill them, it's the chemicals they give off while alive that helps with attraction.

Agree. Its a myth that they burrow into the silt or wriggle off.
