I wonder, having been on a wait list and seem other jump the queue, if fishing clubs are subject to FOI requests? I understand the private companies are not but those members clubs owned by the public who join?

I'm pretty sure most clubs and syndicates will have a clause to say membership offered at their discretion so doubtful that you can get that info

It's nothing unusual for places to have 2 lists. One for People recommended or known to the place, and the other for randomers who will fill spots if the first list becomes empty at best

Freedom of Information requests relate to public bodies only ( Government, Police NHS etc ) . You may be confused between that and Data Protection which dictates how our information is managed by all organisations.

No , you are misinterpreting the term public body. Simply it means government, council police NHS , official bodies funded by public money, tax for example.
Most angling clubs I have found are a law to themselves. Most seem to make the rules up as they go a long. Run as a dictatorship and stuck in the dark ages.

That's not been my experience at all. For many years I was on the committee of a local water. Anyone could see the waiting list. We had it at every signing on day. For the last twenty odd years both the waters I'm a member of are very open about the list. One of them publishes it on our website, with the proposers name and every year they say how many they are taking on as we have a fixed number of members. It's very transparent. You can see on the list that there are people proposed by committee members that have been waiting years. No special treatment in either club that ive ever seen.

My post was a bit tongue in cheek to be honest. Your right there are some good clubs out there that only have the best interests of there members at heart.
