What is a good low profile pod in black that allows the butt eye to sit behind the alarm, I'm struggling to find one they all seem short in length now days.

Fox Quattro, not sure if they still make them new but there virtually bullet proof I've had mine must be at least 20 years apart from the odd chips it's perfect so I wouldn't worry about buying 2nd hand ,I've also a Nash 4 play think it's called that's not bad but I'd go for the fox

I'm the same, when my mk1 Quattro dies I think the only alternative is either a second hand one or a custom job. The craze for tiny little pods doesn't seem the one for me. Manufacturers are laughing though, half the material for twice the price.

Another vote for fox quattro. If you don't mind silver aluminium poles have a look at Chris brown pod.

Quattro user since their original release (preferred the mk1 to the mk2) and still keep 2 of my original collection (battered 3 rod & a mint 4 rod) for sentimental value.
I too was a 'butt behind the alarm' merchant (sounds dodge) however I've broken my OCD by having Neville ball clips whipped behind the reel seat on all my rods - acts in exactly the same way and allows you to use a shorter pod set up (which can sometimes be convenient).
Alternatively if you don't want to do this just buy some Jag (or similar) rod lockers and your worries will be over!

Still sink my tips and put my reels behind the alarm when I've got a fish on (the remaining 2 rods) . . .does this count?

That could actually mean you don't need butt rests at all.
