Hi Anyone had a look at both the normal worldwide and the compact version? Thinking about getting one and like the idea of the compact but am not sure its as versatile or stable as the normal sized version.

Its nearly twice the price! Is it really that much better - I have no solar stockists near me so difficult to go and see one?

I use the compact version and find it just right, never has stability issues, but I've not used the normal one.

£310 compared to £475 last I looked, depends on what you want, both need more bits to make them even more versatile and neither come with buzz bars. Lots had issues with the worldwide twisting due to the single bar front to back which for me is also to short for 13ft rods. Both would need need drop in goal post adapters to fish as snag set up. Both would need a pair of longer legs for use at the front if fishing the rod tips high. If none of this matters to you then the compact is probably the one but I think the universal is also better made and a more refined product.

Do you not think something like the Jag Super Compact is as versatile? That it can be used as single sticks, goalposts or as a pod is almost as versatile as it gets, though could arguably be on the small side if, as you mention, using 13 foot rods.

I know it isn't, it's to short in standard pod format for 13ft rods, not suitable for beachcaster style and not as good on uneven banks that slope from side to side. If you buy the 316 adjustable kit it comes with 6 and 8 inch sticks which are too short, I've got a brand new one here unused, it's a high quality bit of kit that will get used but only on relatively flat ground that's to soft to support bank sticks. At £475 it's very close to universal money but not as versatile.

Ive got the jag 316 rp1 pod and the solar universal and just sold my jag 316 super compact and the solar will definitely cover more options, its a superb bit of kit and imo the best pod currently on the market. As goose mentioned the twin centre bar design is much better than the single centre bar on the original worldwide pod. I never thought i would say it being a jag fanatic but solar have over taken them with the universal. Even the machining and finish is just as good as jag these days. Everything solar seem to do at the minute is top drawer.

I have had to use a longer set of sticks on the front of the P1 to lift the tips up to keep the line above weed.
It's fine with 12ft rods, even if I put the extreme rod butt on the back test, but I reckon you might need longer if you use 13ft rods.

So are you saying the worldwide centre has is not long enough to accommodate 13ft rods with the butt ring behind the alarms?

Even with 12ft rods the butt ring is in front, waterside of the alarms.
Note mine is the original P1, before it was updated to be P1 Worldwide. I do not know if that is a spec change or just renamed.

They did a global conversion kit for it, basically a centre bar extension but I think that was over £100 to buy new. If I didn't have so much bank ware already and was looking for a go anywhere settup to last for twenty plus years it would probably be the euro universal with a couple of extra ten inch adjustable sticks and goal post adapters. Costly but would cover all I would ever need and last forever, of course being stainless it would be heavy which many don't like but it doesn't bother me as it aids stability.
