My thought is if you get the second take before you put the first one back.

So what If the first one was caught at say 11pm on the Saturday and you stick it in the “onion bag” until morning so you can get the right sort of “insta” shot and the 2nd one comes at 4.30 the following morning...
Is that a true brace?
IMO
a proper brace is when one is being played and the other goes off
so land the first one and then the other

IMO that would be a double take.
My take on it is if I have two fish in a session, it would be a brace. Like last night, I had two fish one at 8pm and one at 2am, two different days but still on the same session. I left the lake at 7:30am.
In football, if you score 2 goals in 90 minutes it's classed as a brace.

As Framey says - I've always thought its only a brace when you've got 2x on at once - saying that there's a fine line in the timeframe between literally just scooping one up on one rod when the other goes off - still a brace but borderline IMO!

I agree. I consider a brace as having 2 in a session, 2 on at once is a double take. To be honest I can only dream of either scenario at the moment!!

Two on at the same time is a brace I would also say within a reasonably short time of each other, say having landed one and in the middle of dealing with it and the other rod goes off then its still a brace, I wouldn't count it if I've caught one returned it and five minutes later the other rod goes off then its not a brace for me.

That's how I always thought of a brace IMHO.
Obviously sacking fish up/floating slings can move these goalposts of time a bit.
Anything else, is just multiple fish over a good session

A double take would result in a brace, if both fish are landed, but i always thought that if, the 1st fish has been landed, and is still in the net, then the other rod tears off, and landed. Then you have a brace of carp, landed within close proximity of each other.
It seems to be common practice in Europe, that 2 carp landed within 24hours is considered a brace, whereas in "hunting" terminology, if you shoot a pair, during the entire hunting session, then you´ve bagged a brace. As said, a proper brace shot, is 2 carp on the mat. What about 3 carp, as i seem to remember an old pic from the early days, of angler with 3 carp on the mat, or grass

I would say that two fish with a similarity (ie 2 x 30s, 2 x linears etc), one after the other in the same session would count as a brace. Can't say I've ever used the term and never gave it too much thought to be honest, I'm happy with 1 a session full stop!

You need to remember Roy that most posts on here are mostly made when people are bored at work or home and they're generally not fishing but are thinking about it - makes us feel better so we usually write whatever twaddle we so choose . . . well I do anyway

Traditionally ... Ive always considered a brace of carp being 2 fish in a photo (possibly frowned upon nowadays?) ... ie caught second whilst dealing with the first
If i had caught 2 carp in a session and someone asked me what i had caught i would say "a couple" and would never consider using the word "brace" in this instance
With "silvers" it is possibly different. If I caught a pair of large roach ... traditionally it would be possible the first had been sitting in a keepnet for much of the session, with many other fish caught in between times before the second one is caught .... Holding both the Roach would be considered a "brace" i guess.
