Right guys not done much for a while but thinking of trying to enjoy the sport again . I'm thinking of a new set of rods .
Currently I have some torrix 12 3.25 which are far to heavy for the venues I fish some baby ballistas in 2.5 and some dymag 3 piece 2.75 , but I'm thinking of flogging the torrix and getting some 12ft 2.75's , I'm toying with the idea of some armalites or Hearns . But from what I can see they are only doing a 3 lb Hearn ? I've also had some 12ft 2.75 Hearns a few years back and they were great but like a tit I sold them .
So I guess the question would be go for the armalites or wait to see what the 3lb Hearns are like . Or is there something else?
My casts are no more the 90 yards and the waters I have access to are not excessively weedy or snaggy

I've got the 3.25 torrix and they are far to heavy and unresponsive.
I would wait for the new 3lb hearns and check them out, I am.
The 3lb greys aircurve are also lovely rods, but only 50ml rings which puts me off.

Hi there, hope this is allowed as we both have thumbs, I have a set of 3x freespirit 12ft 2.75lbs in vgc that I'd be interested in some kind of swap with you, we're also relatively close so could meet you half way to save posting hassles.

I've never really been a fan of freespirit tbh . I had some e class golds a few years back and never got on with them . What are yours ? Handles etc

Maybe a bit old fashioned, but I'd consider a set of Ballista's in 2.75, if they're still available. Had mine since about 1993 and still love them, used them for about 80% of my fishing this year. I've recently coupled them with a set of Okuma inc 6000's, and it's a cracking set up.

I have a set of Acurix in 3lb - best rods I have ever had. Fantastic playing action, I cannot speak highly enough of them.
Toying with the idea of getting a lighter set... find myself using lighter and lighter rods these days.

I had a set of free spirit ES that sound perfect for what you are after, wish I never sold them they were superb rods.

I think you would be making a mistake moving them on. I find mine to be very light, I'd prefer them to have a faster taper but the torrix isn't a bad rod. I have a set it 2.5 which are lovely yet too soft unless you want to sit around ok day playing a 20.

It may feel that the stiffer rod is capable of pulling harder, that's often wrong though.
YOU can pull harder, but physics means leverage is on the side of the fish.
Razorback seems to have gone awol, but I'm certain he has torrix 2.25 and TEs that when tested proved this. *there are exceptions and variables involved but the science is pretty basic.
Try undoing a stubborn nut or bolt with a little 6” spanner, it's often impossible. Then try the same with a 60” pole on the end of the spanner... it'll undo with little effort or snap the spanner.
Now consider that you are the nut and the more length you give to the fish, the harder you make it for yourself.
This is why test curve is so misleading regarding power. Catfish rods are 5lb or so but begin short and bend (to 90 degrees) right through to become even shorter, a 2.75 ‘carp' rod tip (at 90 degrees) could have a butt section off a spod rod with no flex and be nowhere near as powerful in terms of hook point pressure.
Reverse that and have a 2.75 which bends through against a 5lb spod tip on the same stout butt section and the 5lb rod now only pulls about 3lb of pressure at 30 yards because it is inefficient for you.
Do you pull straight for a break if you cast in a tree? Or lean into it with a £500 3.5lb madeupitanium guided girder that's got ‘backbone' (lol)? That's right you can barely get the bow out of the line and waggle a branch at 50 yards.. because every inch of rod is a handicap once your lead is out there for all out pulling power
