Why do people do this? Come down for a day session on a local park lake and I was the 1st to arrive whilst still dark. Had a walk around and aw and heard nothing so went on instinct to get the rods out before it got light. 3 guys just turned up, nice day no rain forecast and they headed to the peg they wanted with no looking and started hammering pegs in to get the bivvy up before the rods are even out of the bag. Bearing in mind the lake has done one small double in the last 4 weeks sat here scratching my head. I'll eat my words if they go and bag a couple but surely a bit of time trying to find the fish and suitable spots is more important than a bivvy

Similar thoughts to me. As long as they are not bothering me, crack on
Nail on the head though, fishing is many different things to different people, I guess that's what still makes it unique
Saying that, with the recent temperatures and the forecast this week I wouldn't be expecting much action

maybe they've been pre baiting the pegs they went to, maybe the pegs they went to have winter form, a lake i fish I want one particular peg and if I can't get on it its the difference between 5 or 6 fish or 1 if I'm lucky.
you do your thing and let them do theirs. you didn't see anything to go on so even if they had walked round they would be in the same position as you. the hammering of pegs is a head scratcher but each to their own

I would much rather they just set up in their favorite swims rather than start walking round trying to find the fish, then they could spot them before me! And the more they hammer pegs in the better, as long as I'm not in an adjacent swim obviously.
Maybe they were just on a scoial and weren't that fussed about catching, I don't know but the less other anglers use their eyes and watercraft the better for the rest of us I say!

Maybe these guys fish there regularly and know they arrived before bite time and were on their pre baited spots in plenty of time. Then again they may not care.

Often hammering in the pegs moves the fish off anyway so you would probs be ok

Well there is your probable answer to your question, they knew where to fish from experience of where the fish are likely to be and why go wandering around the pond looking for something that may not show and risk losing the hotspot if someone else turns up and jumps straight in especially this time of year. And how do you really know what has been out in the past 4 weeks? Some keep it all quiet especially to protect their hotspots and they may even have been catching in the few days from them spots preceding your visit.
Myself though, I find my swim, and providing weather is good, rods and net are first things out, and as they still have bait on from the last session, they get cast out, rods laid on ground, net set up, and then bivvy up if I am staying longer than a day.
Everybody to their own.

Maybe. Or could be a couple guys on a social and realising(if this post was from today or yesterday) that 100mph winds are forecast and they don't want their bivvy to blow away. The elitism in carp fishing does my tits in. I get less fishing time than the majority on here maybe 2 or 3 day sessions a year so if I manage to book some time off from my 80+ hour a week job, to do a couple of nights to relax, who the hell are you to say in a overly nasal voice ‘ooohhh what a noddy not even looking for the fish' I go fishing for me and to relax I don't give two s***s what anyone else on the lake thinks mate let people fish for themselves I paid my money to fish same as anyone else. However I never hammer in pegs with a mallet twisting the top is far better and quieter

They are down for a social, catching is secondary, hardly a new thing.

Exactly, if they are doing no harm then fair play to them, I'm stuck indoors and would love to be able to get out.
