Been toying around with liquids to glug my boilies in, used sticky baits bloodworm liquid and done quite well on it but being the penny pincher I am I've started giving sunflower oil a try as I can get it for less than £1 a litre. But i'm not too confident in the attractive qualities of it.

What do you guys reckon, is sunflower oil an effective liquid to boost your boilies with? Or should I stop being such a tight arse and go back to my bloodworm liquid or try a different oil such as hemp or salmon oil?

The Sunflower oil is fine in a spod mix, i wouldn't use it to boost boilies it will add exactly zero to a bait.

Oil will lock harden the boilies if you leave them in it too long. It'll lock the boilies up and stop them leaching attractors.
Glazing them in oils is a different story and can be very effective. I believe Ian Russel loves sunflower oil and has written about it a few times. Should be able to dig something up on google.
Salmon oil probably slightly more attractive that sunflower oil imo. And isn't a bank breaker either for good quality oil.

I've used peanut, salmon, sunflower, rapeseed, hemp and have had varying results.

A good hydro is better than anything else, buy in bigger bottle from baf to get the price down. Oils don't add any attraction imo

Glazing a bait with oil that has already been soaked in food / amino liquids may spread those liquids through the water column and create a flat spot when the bait is disturbed. Beyond that I don't think they add a lot of attraction. Oil included inside the bait may improve the nutritional value but adds little to the attraction.imo.

Sunflower oil drained from tins of tuna, a splash of fish sauce... works and is as cheap as you can get..

Great tactic Mark - use this method a lot and shows when fish are visiting the baited area. Very effective way in using oils.

Not as cheap, Thai fish sauce, goes a long way for the money.

Ive always wondered how a fish that is in water can detect an oil that is the exact opposite of water soluble?

I use cc Moore's Pacific tuna boilies and use the matching liquids in the range with them, mainly coating my freezer baits but other than marginal results than without it seems to boost my confidence more than anything, on occasion the hookbait booster product has proven to work better but more so depending on the situation, personally I wouldn't bother coating with oils when liquids or plugs serve the purpose more effectively if coating anyway.
