Just expanding on a bankside chat with a angler a few weeks back who said he generally considered Common Carp to fight a much more prolonged fight than Mirrors or Leathers. In my experience I've found not a lot of difference... any thoughts?

Despite the mirrors being double the average size of the commons on my local lake, I know instantly when I've hooked one. The mirrors tend to plod and use their bulk to resist whereas the commons seem hell bent on reaching the other side of the lake!

I caught a fan tail koi once. Butterfly koi in the garden centres I believe they are called.
Put up a right scrap that.

I've never noticed a difference between commons and mirrors. Generally I feel they both put up less of a fight pound for pound as they get larger. Only had a few grass carp but they have all fought far harder than regular carp.

In my experience the hardest fighting carp pound for pound are the old 'wildies' i.e. long thin commons. Not many left now though.

Interesting point, Not a leviathan by any stretch but I've found that 20 or so pounders have lots of energy and can give a great scrap.

Not a strain of carp, but I find the spawned out torpedo shaped carp say 15 to 25 lbs to really put up a scrap. The big fat ones just use their weight and plod about.
There is a lake local to me with some what I call long commons. Pound for pound they fight harder I think.

A lot of the very wild, uncaught, 20s and 30s we catch in our big US waters pull much, much harder than the equivalent French fish I catch.
Probably because they do not have big guts, and swim about a lot, keeping them well muscled?
The strain, of course, dates back to euro imports from 1860 ish, so no Royals and Dink's for us, sadly.

Smaller commons I have found go like rockets, all over the place as fast as they can, generally found the bigger versions fight as hard as each other, had mammoth fights off them both lol, a lot depends on the time of the year, oxygen levels, fish condition etc water depths
