Dave Lane and Terry Hearn come across as genuine nice guys as do many other well known carp anglers they have all bent the rules to land their target fish it just seems like Jim Shelly takes it that extra bit further. The story about him nailing bream to trees does not sit well with me. I know they can be annoying but that's all part of it for me I would never kill one just because it picked up my bait.

Neither would I but I've seen matchmen throw ruffe up the bank because they couldn't weigh them in on a match.

I've heard some awful tales about Jim, all second hand I must add.

Shelley.. full time angler, who wouldnt catch if fishing that much. Catch at all costs, use bait companies as Guinea pigs.. retreated from Rockford with his tail between his legs.. bye bye..

Had one personal experience with him which was the Carp Forum social in Wolverhampton a few years back where he was the guest speaker. I didn't know anything about him so sat there listening for what I thought would have been a few anecdotes, tips and all things carpy.
Instead it was basically him bragging about fishing SSI that he had to break into, stealing someones boat and other similar stunts. He thought it was all funny.
To cap it all my brother won a free tuition lesson with him. When he rang up to book it he said he would only do it if someone else also paid full price which wasn't mentioned anywhere before.
His attitude stank and he was rude.
The bloke's a knob and frankly I'm always surprised people idolise him.
I remember when he was a member on here and was kicked off for how he treated people.
That all being said, he makes no difference to my life and the world is full of other knobs who do far worse.

Not sure if true or not. But if anything like that happened anywhere I fish and was previewed to it. It wouldn't end well for either of us. Absolutely no need for complete disregard of life. If he did do this then he should be ashamed of himself.

I think you'd be surprised. I'm not saying there bad, but how many ppl jump onto sticky because all the top lads are hauling week after week (or so it's portrayed!) apart from the cell advertising they have been one of the best at advertising imo

Bait swapping and brand jumping!. Once a good bait, always a good bait
50% of carp anglers are ****ing clueless (that's being polite btw) bought out of the box or off shelf brigade, they don't know **** all about bait other than it's round, they have no experience of it!!!, they can push a needle through it and occasionally they catch a carp on it. They are more conditioned than the fish with all the advertising hype I am sorry to say
What Mainline and the rest do is pretty amazing imho. They help idiots catch the fish of their dreams and they have not got an clue on the real reasons WHY

Agree with this and scozza, more money in advertising than there is in the actual bait creation and development. Advertise well enough and it don't matter if your bait is a ball of dust, there's so much going in all over that fish will get caught on it.
