A Bite Alarm gives zero advantage to anybody, hell it's an audible alarm to movement just like a Coin dropping off a Spool into a tin, just like the Penn Surfmaster Clutches we used to use with running rigs - the Alarms just became fancy Rod Rests as the clutches were so loud!
Just like Silver Foil, Bobbins, Washing up Bottle tops, Swing Tips, Quiver Tips, Floats etc all give you a visual indication of movement, just like an Alarms LED does.
My view is – they have all paid the same money, no one has any perks or advantages over anybody else now they are banned – a totally level playing field, simple as that equality. All I've heard off members is “Brilliant!”

Sad times when folk need to ban X, Y, or Z for the "level playing field" if you wish to level up get a boat or a chirp or drone or whatever. Don't sit there whining like some spanked kid. It's a pastime were like everything, tech innovates and things move forward. Some call it progression and few want regression and just to hold it back is in my opinion jealousy. Again, shoe on the other foot, whos ruining what for the majority? Don't like it, take up another pastime. I dont want some nob lecturing me on what they think is an acceptable practice.

LOL Skill... That old chestnut. Matey, I know guys with all the gear and an idea and would catch their fair share with or without the tech. You sound bitter and very sad. It almost bought a tear to my eye. Have you thought of a just giving page, ill throw in a few quid to fund a toy for you?
If it helps and it's not hurting what is the problem? I've seen water parks thrive because of bait boats that were plagued by anglers casting into bushes and trees. A nature reserve local to me has now had zero birds caught up in 10lb line that these carp noddies think they need to cast 180yds, and leave trailing for birdlife to hang themselves on. It has its place, but sadly you type tends to think they know best, when in reality they will never see the bigger picture because of the blinkers...

In my experience most people don't want bait boats on their waters. When I was on the VW syndicate a member proposed that we requested that bait boats could be allowed. It was a resounding ‘no thanks' from the other members and the idea was dropped very quickly.
Bait boats would have been a HUGE advantage on that water and people would have caught more fish, but nobody wanted to do it that way.

Its generally the older guys that have a heavy reluctance to change, its not just in the fishing world.
The only constant is change and if you don't embrace you just become bitter and sound like an old moaner lol.

Fisherman - has a beard, a big jumper and goes out in a boat on seas that would make most of us cry like a baby
Angler - sits next to / stands up (if on the fly) a puddle or river to get away from the daily grind / wife / husband / non gender specific life partner (just for you noj)
As for drones. Nasty things. I got one caught in my hair once.

Biggest problem with tech be it drone or bait boat is often the idiot controlling it.
Doesn't bother me about level playing field etc but when a boat or drone affects the peace and quiet, other people's fishing and allows a hook bait to be presented in an unsafe area then that alone is good cause for them to be banned in my book.
I don't suppose you would like to venture an option (acceptable practice or not) on a couple of things I've seen recently.
1. I was fishing a small inlet and spent most of the morning tempting one of the lakes larger residents to take off the top. Bait was cast out and looking very hopeful when a bait boat came from across the lake, swung around nearly hitting the carp which disappeared for the rest of the day. Only a fish at the end of the day but in my view not too considerate.
2. Same lake possibly same boat but this time he used the boat to drop his bait well under an overhanging tree that had branches hanging in the water. Carp's safe haven obviously and he soon had a take, the problem was the carp became tethered to a branch. After about 15 or 20 minutes he gave up and pulled for a break.
At best that carp had a long length of line to drag around. Leave it up to you what you think could be the worst

Death rigs, undercooked particles spodded out by the lorry load left to rot. I've called out animal rescue several times for destressed swans, cygnets, geese due to the so-called purist anglers that only care about themselves, I could carry on, but you get the gist.
It isn't the tech it's the angler behind the rod irrelevant of whether tech is involved or not. To ban technology is just ignorance and says more about the guy running the water than what statement they are trying to make.

I would agree with you.However people who control clubs / waters have to cater for the lowest common denominator.A.K.A complete 'king idiots. If you have an exclusive syndicate where every member is vetted , then things can be different. As long as the people doing the vetting know what they are about.

I quoted earlier about people struggle with thinking, it's true, some or many anglers don't think about what they are doing. They are either idiots or genuinely have no idea.
To remove that 'not thinking', the idiot factor, you have rules many fisheries have imposed, like no bait boats or drones, even no leaders etc.
It is not about removing technology, it is protecting the fish the environment peace and even privacy of other anglers, that way the rules are simple, idiotproof, you remove the idiot or inconsiderate angler factor.
