DJ,..some interesting reversed psychological comments mate..
The person who doesn't wish to use a baitboat decides thus because they might not wish to use such a thing,it therefore does not matter if they feel disadvantaged or no,more to the point..it is whether any fish the angler catches is meritous..ie the one using a bait boat,my opinion is they have cheated,not only themselves but the ethos of angling in some ways..
As you rightly say,a baitboat in the wrong situation ,with a catch at any cost person using a said baitboat can ruin a lot of things for many people.. I have seen it myself..I saw it on Marsh's place before years ago ,indeed a member of my family made his name in angling using one,he'll tell you himself it was a massive advantage ..no doubt about it..
Not that many years ago my family distributed ,designed a baitboat,I'm proud to say I never ever desired one...I could've had a top of the range one ,at any point within reason..
I declined,as even then...the only time I can see a baitboat being of benefit is someone who is unfortunately disabled in some way...

The very fact that it's possible to send a boat out, map a swim, find a spot and put a bait on it in 5 minutes is why I would not use one for my regular fishing.
For me that's just too easy, I like the process and honing the skill to do those things with a rod and line. There is a satisfaction that I would not get holding a remote control.
However, if some people want to fish like that it's fine. I mitigate it by not fishing waters that allow it. Thankfully very few of the waters I've wanted to fish allow bait boats.

I fish many lakes like Sandhurst etc that doesn't allow boats and have done exceptionally well using a rod and line to find my spots and fish it. For me a boat is not something i can't do myself but its something where i arrive late Friday after work something i can do quicker. For me its like a game when I do use my boat. Would always separate 1 rod from the boat and find a spot to fish using bags or few spombs. See which method catches.
I still can't fathom how some see it as cheating if allowed on the lake for everyone to use if they decide to do so. Like saying tiger woods cheating early 2000s with nikes first solid core balls before Pro V's came into place as it gave him an legalised advantage? For me personally cheating is something like some using said fish hormones to attract fish which isn't and shouldn't be allowed but done behind the scenes.
Out of curiosity what do you guys think of carpfeed maps showing hotspots to lakes. Hell you can even buy full contoured lake maps. Or how about info on a good spot by someone leaving their spot and tell you they biting at 20 wraps. Is this also cheating? You didn't find the spot yourself in the end the info was relayed to you.

For me it's not about cheating other anglers. For me using tech is about disrespecting the fish and cheating on the unspoken sporting contract between the angler and the fish.
All the fish we catch, not just carp are marvellous, beautiful and fascinating, puzzling and frustrating. They are also challenging and secretive.
The contract is simple. I am coming to where you live, take you on in your own environment where you are an absolute master of survival who knows every pebble, twig, weed frond, all deeps and shallows, silt, gravel and snags and all the other features of the lake. I am going to try and catch you with a rod and line using my body, my brain and my senses. The knowledge and skills I have learned and practiced over the years will along with my rod, reel, line will be the tools I use.
If you are impossible to find or reach, if presenting a bait is difficult or impossible or you infallibly identify my hookbait, I am clumsy and I alert you or for any reason I can't catch you I will give you best on that day and raise my hat to you and walk away. You know I'll be back.

I appreciate what you are saying. If using tech was the problem wouldn't that include something as simple as a bite alarm? At the end of the day it certainly helps hooking fish more securely in its indication?
Lets gets silly and go a step further what about a weather app? Is that not tech which tells you when a low front is coming in/moon phases or better yet tells you the wind for the weekend. Have you never looked at a weather app and set up knowing the next day wind will be blowing down your face?
Im not here for an argument just to be clear just trying to get a point across because some people disagree with certain things doesn't mean it's bad. For me fishing is a hobby i do to get away from a high pressured office job. I go out to enjoy the outdoors and relax and if I blank it bothers me absolutely zero. Hell most of the time if i do catch i don't even get proper pics as even though realistically a carp can easily be out of water 5-10 min for me it means more getting him back to where he belongs.
All i can say is tight lines and if i do every fish next to one of you lot on a lake that does permit bait boats and I so happen to chose to use mine you will get a complimentary introduction before i cast a line. Ill be the 19 stone ginger that looks like he belong on a street corner 😂

I really don't expect to convert anyone to my way of thinking. If you go fishing and do it your way and you feel the need to use any or all means at your disposal to catch fish at all costs that's your choice. All I'm saying is don't call yourself an angler.

I'm not a fan of rc boats but I wouldn't describe their use as catch at all costs.
Arguably those who go to sleep and leave rods fishing/angling on buzzers through the night are in direct violation of some imaginary rule regarding sporting chances?
My preference is to use a single rod with a centrepin or fly reel, but I don't bemoan the use of those fixed spool godless contraptions you fisher people call reels on your multiple rods

Somebody used a drone on my lake to get pics of the lakebed on my lake, very clear water, you can see the bottom from above.
The person living in the house on the park complained about it, and drones were instantly banned.
Other rules include no fake baits, so no plastic or Cork balls as hookbaits, no bait boats, boats may only be used to land fish from the weed, or to retrieve tackle from the weedbeds if it snags up, but only if there is another angler or person on the lake in case of difficulties and lifejackets must be worn in the boat.
Not forgetting no climbing of trees.
I try not to get into the bait boat debate but I don't approve of them except for disabled anglers who can't physically cast.
Yes I do use buzzers, most of the time, but I do sometimes use a centrepin and sit and watch a float, or even freeline.
