Is there another way to get an indication. Like using a laser style beam, when the beam is broken or disturbed it sets the alarm off.

Sensor on the rod monitoring any spool movements. Be rubbish slack lining. Remember those little alarms that clipped to the rod blank with a roller.

Years ago a mate of mine got these dodgy reels with built in alarms. The spool would go and the alarm would sound. We used to rip the piss out of him something chronic, "musical reels" we used to call them. But in principle if you're happy to fish with loose(ish) clutches the idea was ok I guess.

One i genuinely cant believe hasn't been introduced yet is a phone app to help with setup and settings. As in LED colour, tone, sensitivity, battery life in alarm etc etc.
the technology is definitely there to be used - just no one applying it yet.
Also like the idea of having the indication linked to a watch/ smart watch as mentioned.

Agree with others - phone app is a good but 'unstable' idea - a phone is a phone; an alarm needs to just be an alarm. Maybe just having the phone as a back up receiver? Would also worry about my phone running out of power etc
Gimmicky but could the be one for the nerds - what about stats after a session in terms of alarm head to phone app link - ie. number and time of 'occurences' / number and time of full blown runs etc. How many times have you probably been 'done' in half sleep or maybe failed to hit a small dropback when not looking at the bobbin / rod tip etc? Could be useful or depressing or both!

I think its already been said on here but I think something with the Wolf QI functions in a smaller package.The Wolf are pretty much the perfect alarm and the receiver is very impressive too

I can't see the problem with getting off you arse and turning a few knobs.
I mean, after adjusting your alarm would you not be tempted to give it a tug just to check it anyway?

The originals just used infra-red LEDs which are power hungry devices. Del Romang added a magnet and reed switch to reduce the drain substantially.

Phone apps the manufacturer has to maintain them so that they work with the next flavour ofIOS, Android etc and we all know from time to time app updates go wrong and besides our phones are doing more and more and tbh I go fishing to get away from the ruddy things !
I just don't think it really brings anything just a gimmick imho stick with knobs & buttons ! And a separate receiver.
