As a designer I judge on usefulness vs aesthetic - in the words of Louis Sullivan / Frank Lloyd Wright 'form follows function' . . the two need to be intrinsically linked and in harmony to produce an effective product. Just because something 'functions' for decades does not equate to 'good' design IMO (although it does help the wallet etc); similarly a beautiful product that requires constant maintenance because it struggles to function could also be classed as poor design . . .

Had one for years. Use it on every trip with citronella candles that doesnt stop the mozzies but makes my bivvy smell nice

Ridgemonkey sandwich toaster, absolutly game changing bit of kit. Ive got 2 and the original one was one of the 1st to come out, its had an absolute hammering and its still going strong, this one i use at home and my new one in my kit bag. Not many on the bank who dont have a ridgemonkey toaster.

Forget about that, shame on me – would be lost without mine, used the first one I had until the hinges wore away.
Another I forget about - my Esbit Cooker, quality bit of kit that can't breakdown, and will run on many fuels including twigs.

Gardner braided hair needle is the only bit of kit i cant remember not using. Simple and doesnt stick in my leg or ass when in a pocket.

The two bits of 6mm stainless steel rod that I use for pulling knots tight. They do the job that I wanted them to do every time, cost me bugger all, and they will not break.
Cadac Citi chef has been a game changer for me and prior to that the brickette version just find the gas Citi more convenient. Does everything , fry up, hot pies, pizza with the extra stone , roast dinners, you name it it can do it.

No,they are the uco ones.The one my wife had was in a round tin,it was a yellow candle and it smelt really strong but it really did work very well

Don't know about what best designed means... looks, longevity etc it's all a bit subjective really but the stand out products for me have to be Harrison Ballistas in a range of test curves that Ive had for years and use regularly. A North Western landing net pole which is nearly 35 years old and still as functional and strong now as it was when I purchased it - doesn't get used so much nowadays but still a really good bit of kit. John Roberts butt grips - just a classic design that continues to work. Lockey's original stainless - classic design just a bit heavy for me nowadays. Emblem x 5500a's... reels that are god knows how old and still going strong, RX digitals - great alarms, stolen by my son... a stainless baiting needle that had survived 25 years, several insertions into my fingers, thumbs and a hospital extraction... think it was made by a company called Big Fish Adventure or something like that. Finally, still love GR60. Never could fault it...

Make them yourself, dead easy, then you can make them as strong as you want
