All the other manufacturers have been building volume for some time and we are now in an era when everything costs more so the reality is it's going to cost a bit more - you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work it out...
The days of selling on price are long gone.
If it was a simple bit of plastic that went beep how would it qualify for patents...

What about an alarm that talked to you -
Motion sensor when you get up at first light for a p*ss - "Mornin' fella!"
1 Bleep - "Seriously?"
2 Bleeps - "Not sure I'd bother - up to you"
3 Bleeps - "Could be a biggun!"
Aborted run - "Muppet / Nooonce!"
Screamer - "Fish on mofo!"
Drop back - "Reel Reel Reel"
Alarm fiddling - "Stop fiddling nod!"
etc . . .maybe you could have a regional accent option dial?

What about an alarm that Bluetooth connects to your phone, making your phone the receiver and you can set any tone, sound, MP3, whatever you wanted.
Gives you the freedom to set it on vibration at nighttime and most phones connect to smart watches anyway so you could then make most smart watches into a receiver.

I had thought of this some years ago but someone told me that having the phone on bluetooth all the time would be inhibitive and munch through the batteries.
Disclaimer: I have no idea how true that is.
If it's not a problem, it seems a good idea.

That might suit some people but I couldn't think of anything worse.
I just want a receiver that I turn on and leave on for days on end, cant be doing with phone fiddling.
