Enjoy your fishing with your son.
Your post just brought back some very happy memories of me fishing with mine; his first fish, his first ever 3 and 4lb chub, a '2lb' perch and me snicking out a high double figure pike from a local park lake when I took him for an hour or two.
I say 2lb perch, it was massive, but I didn't have scales with me, so I estimated it. I've looked at the pics since and I reckon I've done him out of a lot of ounces.
The other thing is, my local club used to have an active junior match section, and youngsters were always encouraged on their fishing. Do day ticket waters encourage the youth like a mentor within the club, or are they just a child minder?

'Syndicate' near me allows limited midweek day-ticket access at £40 for 24hrs - decent fish up to scraper 50 . . . however a BAA ticket for a full season is £40; now that is VALUE

Sadly for the young anglers I'm forced to agree, that is all day ticket waters do, and in many, at cost of overstocked lakes, so a false perception of fishing is given.
I know as a junior angler I was spoilt, big chub, roach, big tench, large bream and pike to just around 20lb, with carp to around the same. The current youth near me in Ipswich have very little other than Suffolk Water Park and Hintlesham. Other than them and Chantry Park there is probably nothing closer than 10miles out of the Town.
GAPS waters are a section of river, the 'canal', then Alderson and Causeway lakes, nothing close.

just looked at Cottington Lakes down here in Deal. £42 for 23 hours now on the 2 specimen lakes. I can't help feeling that sooner or later this carp fishing bubble is going to pop, by the time you've shelled out for bait, food, travel you're not getting much change out of £100 for a days fishing. Far more if you have swallowed the whole "take a bucket full of munga" bollox that's spouted, most spod mixes you see on YouTube now would cost you the thick end of £50 to put together.

If only you and your mates are on a lake. You all have chance to move swims to get on fish, and there are basic facilities?

It's called a mugs game
While ever people keep paying it people will keep putting them up and up and up. What will they do when people stop fishing their pond full of ****ters, drop the price, phone a friend, fill it in and turn it into a golf driving range lol
There's a market for it at the moment and people will pay it for their 5 minutes of fame, their choice of course

I've had a BAA ticket for over 30 years. Best money an angler can spend for 12 months access to year round angling.
I've no problem with day ticket places, so long as they haven't taken the water from a club by gazumping the club. Clubs are the life blood of UK angling in my view.

Some people don't go to be famous but just enjoy a decent venue with the chance of a big fish.......each to their own.......

The only club I am in is my own, **** them all
I was going to say it's gone stupid but it's far beyond that, what ever happened to good old fishing
