The tories have been in power for 11 years. There's absolutely no way you can know they're ‘all as bad as each other'. It's usually a standard cop out response from a Tory voter who doesn't want to admit they were wrong.

Hardly any problems are to do with Brexit, but quite frequently on big business, companies who pay off politicians to get what they want.
Privatisation from the Thatcher era has allowed the system to fail. Further devolution, sell-offs have brought it to what it is now, water companies, utilities, gas, electricity all owned by private companies who can 'hide' or buy politicians.
Added to that our 'Town centre greenies' as I call them, only see cuddly nature, not the environment as a whole. Most of the UK population live in towns and cities, they don't care about the bits they can't see, the rivers that go through the countryside, the farms, the moors etc.
Utilities need to be nationalised again, and instead of a watchdog bought by the utility company who pay shareholders big bucks, a genuine environmental care.
Proportional representation would work to some extent, but even better would be a non party political system, no political parties at all.

I don't vote tory either even though thats not your business.
If anything I fear this new labour would be far far worse and I wasnt sure that was possible.

There are many things you can blame on politicians, but does industry get instructed to dispose of toxic substances into the local stream?
Of course not, the loophole is there but the call is made by private business. Unfortunately the most toxic substance is money, it clouds judgement and morality in much the same way as the overspill in question does our waterways.
I'm with Nick and all for a political system that is not party led. Lean where you want politically but we should vote individuals into a smaller number of cabinet positions on merit rather than by association.. though I'm not naïve enough to think that would stop corruption and greed for the reason above, money.
It's like the second home scandal, locals who purchased homes when they were realistically priced are up in arms while local business owners need the trade or they too will be priced out. As flippant as it sounds there are no mines left so you're heavily reliant on tourism and overpriced holiday homes to fund communities; or working in factories who are responsible for the pollution in question, and locals are 100% working there because nobody is doing a 4 hour commute from Lambeth.
Anyone thinking the townie grass is greener and we're all a fiver behind the oligarchs are more than welcome to come and tour my estate

And don't forget it's locals that are selling the houses to grockles. No one put a gun to their head.
The real problem is people moving/retiring down here, selling their house in Croydon for 1mil and buying the same thing for £500k. That drives up the price more than second homes as there's more of that happening, and not just in the “trendy” places.

I lamped the river last night,I saw some small brownies about a mile from the out fall..
It looks like there is some sort of brown, sticky sludge on the stones ,can't see any nice weed now,and there's still waste being let out from the evidence of smelly white toxic foam..
To think I used to drink and swim in this little river,it looks beautiful to the untrained eye,reality is its dead..
June 23 rd,judge Carr,delivers his verdict,Carr,is mooted as a bit of a soft touch down here..we'll see..!

Today ,Saputo have been fined just over 1.5 million quid,plus all the bad publicity..
I will never ,eat another or purchase another product especially as in the Cornwall at war museum which hosts Sapato,they state they are committed to the environment..
Saputo ,are with out doubt grade one environment vandals of the highest order..

I'm supportive of your cause but I don't know which products are involved. Apart from Lurpak which I have stopped buying.
A list of associated products and or companies would be helpful to spread the boycott. Information is key here.

Cathedral City cheese
Frylite ,low fat oil
Lots of whey products
Lurepak..
There are more,...I know a few who work there I shall add a few more over the next day or so..
I smelt the noxious substance recently ,it's a cross tween waste whey and a dead rotting sheep with the wind behind it,..,this smell lasted around 12 hours,felt for the local residents,it's a beautiful rural area,..marred by this great big blob on an airfield..
To use the oft repeated phrase ,it's a ecological man made disaster ,based on greed profits and covert bullying at all levels..
How do I know,well I worked there years ago..in the lab..!
