I can remember him writing about tubing and the chemical smell that it gave off and that he used to hang new tubing in his garage weeks before using it to let the smell dissipate.

i still do this with all rubber beads etc, i leave in a dish of water from the lake for a week or two. Jim was/is my schoolboy angling hero along with Phil Smith & John Sidle. I met him once at Mercers Pk, he did not disappoint.

"Let Us Talk" was usually the first article in Carpworld each moth. Regrdless of where it fell, I always turned to Jim before all else. His take on the current carp 'scene' was always thought-provoking, sometimes scathing but always with an undercurrent of humour I met Jim on many ocassions at various expos around Europe and always enjoyed his company. I am sorry to hear of his ill health. I know how he feels...old age is a bugger. Here's Jim with Alan Atkins in the background with Bill Cottam, Ray DaleSmith and myself at the huge anual Genk carp xxpo in the early-90s.

Think it was advertised as no tangle tubing and he called it no carp tubing...whatever it struck a chord with me and I have always soaked tubing, especially tungsten tubing in water for a couple of weeks before use, and still do today.

I think he might of been over thinking it on some tubing being repellent to fish. 
But his ideas on using zip type inline leads for fishing in heavy weed or lily pads. Might surprise the need to drop the leads at any cost brigade.

I think he might of been over thinking it on some tubing being repellent to fish
not the stuff we use today ! the early stuff was terrible and the chemical smell was so strong he was right !

Jim Gibbinson's articles were the first thing I read in any CarpWorld.
Very thought provoking, with an undercurrent of humour, and almost perfectly written. I bet any typos were not his error!
It was really sad to hear he had cancer, then giving up fishing for other health reasons.

Still think he was over thinking it.. but then again we dont all have to agree on everything do we. Even though the fella was and still is a bit of a legend to me.

A true gent is, Jim.
Having met him on a couple of occasions, on one of the Kent venues he did his '9-5' angling on. Having the rather special moment of him kindly photographing a carp for me too! I couldn't help but mention in my own little joke afterwards to him, knowing full well his pet hate of carp lingo! How the lake was 'Fishing it's head off, Jim' - ' Get a wanger on the banger old chap'... to the utter dismay written all over his face!
He fished exactly the same way as he wrote about 'simplicity subtlety', with none of the silliness of today's carping brigade.
I truly wish him well and saddens me to learn of his health problems.

Nice bloke. Met him a few times at KAPS in Snodland.
We were both in perfect realisation at which level of competence we were at and yet he never knowingly looked down on me.
He even used to tell me where the fish were to see if I would get off the bedchair 😆.
