Got a ticket on Devils Lane this year, was originally after the ticket with the Littleton lakes but they have lost those. Heard mixed things about Devil's but up for giving it a shot. Embryo have been fine to deal with so far.

I don't think it's a co-incidence that rod license sales are falling. I believe they are DOWN 40% in the last ten years, yet the cost of purchasing one has gone UP. If Adults aren't purchasing them, that means there kids aren't fishing neither, but why?
My main concern is the accessibility aspect of venues in regards to getting youngsters into the sport. Removing "nuisance" fish is part and parcel of what gets kids hooked on fishing in the first place. These "fallow" waters people speak of are the ones kids walk/ride to with a rod strapped to their bike frame. If we get what some wish for, all lakes will be like fort knox "syndicates" whereby access for a dad and lad is nigh on impossible. I used to live in an area where there were 20 lakes within a 5min drive of my house, yet I had to drive 30 minutes if I wanted to just go and fish on a whim and know i'll catch a few. Something to think about when a mum/dad is looking for a place to take their kid fishing for the first time.
20 year ago, my dad paid 50 quid and 25 for me per year for 3 lakes. Today, the same three waters, with less fish, are separate "syndicates" costing over 600 quid pus joining fees. Now, who in there right mind will take that punt? Just spend 30 quid on Fortnite and the kid is happy. There is barely anything out there to promote the sport, and when you want to buy a few floats and hooks, you can't because the local shop has died a death because it can't compete with the big online retailers.
Something else which I don't think is a co-incidence is the rise of urban fishing, "naughty" fishing, and the blatant "it's OK not to pay" mentality. Why pay 200 quid for the off chance of a 30 when you can just pop on google maps, find a canal/river lock/marina and catch the same sized fish on the sly? or even better, for nothing? It's always happened I guess, with the only difference being is the fish are not being moved into "syndicates" in the same rates as they were previously (I was being offered cash in the late 2000's to top up a syndicate in Eseex). Many are starting to see, (as has been said) the whole fenced off bark chipping/wooden platform setting as artificial, and they don't fancy paying the rates asked of them, to fish for the same named fish caught by many of the "syndicate" members.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work undertaken to protect businesses, but if this is our future, You'll see the dwindling numbers of anglers dwindle, to the point where we'll be behind our locked gates, moaning that there is no zig foam in the country because AD didn't get their shipment from China

Long time ago I used to say it will be exclusive syndicates if you want a bit of decent fishing or nothing much left at all sadly. Enter the otter and this has just accelerated this for me

Fully agree. A lot of what I found so enthralling 20+ years ago when i started was wondering around little ponds match fishing. Out on the broads in a row boat with my dad and a box of maggots was a highlight of the month for me. It was never about the size of the fish but the atmosphere that I loved. Now with the emergence of comfortable swims spread mere metres apart with little bankside vegetation remaining is the stuff of nightmares for me. Some are better than others mind you, and I commend the owners for keeping sensible rules which I imagine causes them to lose out on money. I also understand that its not financially possible for some and they need to go along with the trends that most anglers are setting... Maybe im just getting old now
That said as a project I cant commend Danny and the guys involved enough in trying to help.. I just wish it was financially viable to fence a lake and let it grow naturally with limited swims and anglers.. sadly this will never be the case for commercial fisheries so they are balancing it as best they can.

Having dealt with embryo personally I can only say that they are doing something that will eventually give us all somewhere to fish. The rate at which lakes were being lost to otters was nothing short of incredible. They have for now, given us hope and a future. They help out with fisheries they do not control too and have helped many club lakes, private syndicates and day tickets to survive. In the end it will spread out the U.K. anglers which May take some pressure off the other lakes which we were all cramming on to and that can only be a good thing. Fishing has changed and I too miss the club lakes. The club waters were often the middle ground for the average man who could buy a ticket for 100 quid and access big fish and different species. Someone had to step in and do something, and they are doing things properly. It's a big thumbs up for me

Anything that promotes and protects fishing is good, although I am not of the opinion that carp or tench only is good.
I think we need to go back to more mixed fisheries.
Overstocking waters by man is not good, we need natural predation, perch, pike, herons.

I've been a carp angler since 1990, and a member of an embryo lake for the last two years. I can honestly say it's one of the friendliest and best run syndicates I've been on.
As for DF he's a regular angler on the lake and just like any other member, he owns the place but you wouldn't know it , he just gets on with his fishing , also one of the first to congratulate you on a capture or to offer to take pics of fish if needed.
I moved to this syndicate as my previous one had otters arrive and I couldn't stand watching the slow demise of that fishery which couldn't be fenced as it is a NT country park .

Totally agree Nick it should be multi species and balanced not just carp, it gives anglers different options throughout the year, I hope they see that eventually. On my embryo syndi the carp have now successfully spawned 3 years in a row, this has become a huge issue as its infested with tiny carp! No silvers in there to predate on the fry!

Let's not tar all Embryo waters with the same brush ! My Embryo syndicate has a healthy stock of silver fish, Pike and Perch.
