Didn't realise Fox did them. I have a few pairs of Korda that I've acquired over the years, plus a Wychwood pair which are quite nice.

These Fox ones appear to maybe have slightly narrower jaws? If so, I like that..more PSI on the smaller jaw area and easier to leave the end flared. Another item for my 'want list'

I've got the fox pliers... They've never made a crimp quite as well flared as that though?

Don't think it's user error. I'm crimping 0.6mm on the small hole setting.

I've got the Wychwood too, very much narrower jaws to create the 'flare'.
Edit, funny, in the 'old days' I used my Pike forceps to crimp crimps, or my narrow nosed electrical pliers (also used to remove trebles) who'd know nowadays only crimps pliers can do the job properly

You were probably crushing onto wire trace though?

Wychwood ones here too.

Mainly got them as they were the cheapest.

The flare thing.... not questioning it, no complaints on it etc.... why do you all think the flare is better for the crimp strength and reliability?

Maybe, never had a failure though so that'll do for me.

Edit @Andy, have a look at those links below. Flaring is meant to prevent crushing/weakening of the mono on exit from the crimp. The people stating it have far more experience than the Carp fraternity.

Im not a crimper.
I did wonder if I should get some crimps and a crimper to try and make some booms on 30lb amnesia. Anyone tried this???

I bought a few from temu and didn't do anything with them, but before my last outing I tried to break them with a couple of pullers and I just couldn't.
Suitably impressed I shoved them in my rucky and cast a couple out.
No fish to report, but I will keep having a go.

Temu boom on top, home tied doubled multi to 30lb amnesia on bottom...

Found them to be a game changer for chods / stiff rigs since there's no need to tie a knot.

Fair is fair, maybe i should nuance my opening post a bit. Since then i've switched to fox crimps and they are simply excellent. Loud crack indicating they are put on correctly, contrary to the previous ones where the sound could be a little misleading to say the least. Still blob them to be sure, but after many fish with the fox ones i can't say it was needed. So yeah due to the fox crimps i've changed my opinion:XD

Can you crimp using long nosed pliers, and if so, have you tested it for strength.

I tried this, but felt I could never get them tight enough against the swivel so that they wouldn't potentially rotate around, at a funny angle (if you catch my drift)

Went back to knots, as they obviously don't rotate. Plus, I like my hinges/chod sections fished in the multi rig style.. which can't be done with crimps (can it?)

I was trying some crimps with 30lb amnesia and tested with two pullers.
The 0.7mm crimps were slipping the odd time, but the 0.6mm crimps were perfect every time.

I also used the 0.6mm crimps on 25lb avid flouro and they were perfect.
