I am not so sure that a "code" ever existed. I do not fish weekends as it is generally very busy and also less productive. If I were a "full timer" but had to leave the water to replenish stocks, collect the Dole, shower (optional) ... it makes sense to do it at the weekend.
I think your issue is more with the volume of participants of our favoured pastime, as it now busy on some waters all the time..
therefore finding a quieter water is an option.

I distinctly remember it being a kind of unwritten rule- even as laney alluded too in his recent blogs on Horton, you pretty much weekended or fished in the week.
I guess it was water dependent, busy circuit waters may have followed the ethos more I suppose.
And the bailiff issue- there's a water near me in tonbridge that has its better swims pretty much rotated by full timers, week in, week out, in the spring it's a nightmare- as we all know, they can be a bit balled up before they spawn. Bailiff's don't get too involved with that one- they just let them be.
I do agree though that there is far too many people putting strain on the better waters- and the only ways it could be alleviated is to put time constraints on the bank tramps or stock more quality waters. One way seems a lot easier than the other to me.

Had a ticket on a very nice syndicate which had its fair share of full timers. Most would fish midweek only then pull off Thursday night or Friday morning. Unfortunately if the fishing was good they would stay on through the weekend. A few weekend only anglers complained about all the good swims stitched up. . Eventually the owners put a 3 day on 4 day off rule. Full timers were pissed and threatened to leave. Because of the long waiting list the owners didn't care they just wanted a peaceful, pleasant atmosphere for members.
Changed the fishing and atmosphere dramatically. Even decided to go two rod instead of three. A great decision for the lake and members.

Ok well aside from mr Lane- I can speak from personal experience of an unwritten rule on more than one so called circuit/ big fish venue.
Also the post regarding the 4 day on from hutchyfan feels fair to me too

By hot swims you mean the swims that are currently holding fish or swims that get punished week in week out?

The so-called hot swims are generally ones where one or two big fish have come out in the past yet people sometimes forget fish swim anywhere they want, it maybe a spot with plenty of features an island, gravel, silt Etc.
It may just be the nearest swim to the car park, lazy bloke swim.
All lakes have spots that are fished more than others, but like I say fish go where they want.

I agree with both Yonny and Ken. If the ‘going swims' are tied up with people who can sit there for days to bore them out then so be it. These swims have lines all over them day in day out. How many times do you hear about the smarter angler slotting in the quieter swim and nicking a good fish in less than 24 hours?
It's boring angling fishing on known spots in known swims in my opinion, much rather go down the other end and nick one in the edge by putting in a bit more effort

Main reason I prefer to fish lakes that don't allow night fishing, cuts down on the time bandits. Trouble is round my way this tends to equate to fishing for smaller fish.

If full time fishing is what you want to do then crack on. Yes I do get jealous when I'm packing up at 6am but then I'm happy I have something to go home to, wife kids etc. If all you have in life is fishing it's probably not a great existence. Each to there own. If your happy crack on. Does make me laugh when someone says about him/her being a better angler then most catching most of the stock etc

My sindicate allows 3 nights fishing 2 nights off the venue, theres other places to fish if you need to fish all week, seems to work well theres ways to flout rules of course but the main rule is dont be a d1ck or you wont get a ticket next year....
