You can always drop your lead size if you are making up bags.
2oz of bait plus 2oz of lead or 3oz plus 1oz equals 4oz,
You'll get to know roughly how much bait to go in a bag.
I'm hitting over 100metres with a bag and 3oz lead on a 3.25lb tc rod.

I have the FS 3.25 lb CTX 12 ft.
I like the rod - very light and slim (reason I bought it as that was my priority), but i would say it's closer to a 3lb TC rod.
A Fast taper, softer than stated Rod, with a Marmite finish.
I tried between a 3 and 3.5 oz lead , and was more consistent with a 3.
Depends on casting technique I guess.

Suppose it may be different from rod to rod. But I'd be surprised if it was. After all put a 3oz lead on it and give it to a big caster and they're going to be putting more load than us normal casters do and I'm more than sure they'd cope with it so I reckon (although it's just theory) the 4oz won't be too much. Don't be scared of breaking it. You'd be hard pushed to break a 3.25 rod with a 4oz

I got an original greys prodigy 3.5lb and its like a broomstick. I reckon it needs 5oz to get the best from it which is why I haven't really used it and it sits in the loft. Would make a good marker rod or light spod rod though.

It is different from rod to rod i have two sets of 3 1/4 rods one set a 3.5 lead casts slightly further than a 4 but the other set a 4 oz out casts a 3.5
A big caster casting a 3oz lead wont be overloading the blank but a 4oz lead may overload the blank.

Do 50mm guides cast further? That question really does open a can of worms really big casters say they do but for the most if using thinner casting lines i don't think they do i think 50's can help with thicker more wirey lines or flouro though, i also think 50's can upset the balance of some rods

There's a reason tournament casters use large rings on fixed spool set ups , do large rings make a difference to all rods and all anglers ? So many variables do what suites you.

Fair enough it's a rough guide I suppose it also what suits each caster and what they are personally capable of
My point being someone like Terry Edmonds or similar would put more load with a 3oz lead than I and most others would with a 4 oz.
